Our tailgating partner's wife has a Mini. Drove it to town once when we were building our permanent structure that we pull the RV up to. It was quicker than I thought it would be.

What did your wife name her Mini?

yea, not really sure she did. She got it about two years ago.... Been a good car so far. As long as things dont break. Parts are extremely expensive and the Mini service department will rip you a new one if you have to pay for any work. Has a 100K bumper to bumper warranty for basic stuff. Hers is the "sport" version which has the faster engine. Its very fun to drive. I just would not want to pour myself into it everyday. Fine for her.

How are we to know without a picture of the Mrs? You know the rules.

Yea, I get that. Plenty here have seen her who are connected with Facebook... But she fits in there nicely.

Don't allow these pervs to sway your common sense. I know you are smarter than that!

Anyway, the Sport Model was what I drove. Have to say again, that I was surprised at the Power.

Okay, question for the old guys...
I had to go and get a TEMPORARY "Disabled" parking permit today.

Anyone else had to go through that? (I am on Oxygen for the time being)

I have had women holding the door for me!!! It is somewhat emasculating. It is temporary until my heart and lungs recover. But it made me feel OLD!

Lol

BTW...Do you know the "Jimbo" Hathley(?) guy on the cover of GON?

They had the phrase "Lanier spots" (lower case spots) on the cover. Is your website up to snuff? Could be a good thing, no?

Well, I am a disabled veteran but I've never even asked about the possibility of a disabled parking permit.

I'll leave those spaces to the people who really need it.

His name is Jimbo Mathley. He is one of my old customers who started guiding on Lanier a few years back.

My website is fine. I really dont use my guide site much. Its there for basic information.

Believe me, I would not have asked for it otherwise.

Just so we are on the same page...

After my latest Congestive Heart Faiure episode, there is still fluid on my heart and lungs. I can't walk 100 yards without having to sit. I have never been like this.

My left leg was shattered in 2007. Five surgeries later there are still 8 screws a plate and 10 pins. Never asked for a permit, be cuz I couldn't even drive until the last cast came off.

I appreciate your service to our country! My father was in Vietnam when I was born at Ft. Benning. His father worked on base after WWII until retirement. Kinda how we became AUBURN people. They lived in Phenix City his entire life.

Damn dude, hate the medical issues. Makes me want to get back on the treadmill. LOL

My father has a handicap plate for Georgia. He is 73 and had a terrible car wreck about 30 years ago that totally crushed his hip. He walks with a hitch in his get e up.

He needs the spot close so thanks beatbammer for your courtesy.

My statement was in no way meant to cast an aspersion. If you are one of those who really need one, then I'm glad you are getting one. I just don't feel like *I* have the need yet. I've had two back surgeries and I sometimes walk around like a 70 year old, gimping around, but I'm still on my own two feet and, as far as I know, my heart is still on solid footing. I'm still in good enough shape to cut my own grass with a push mower on a hot summer day, so I figure that I can damn well walk a hundred feet or so to the store from my parking space.

Be well.

And by the way, there's very little that pisses me off more than seeing a young-to-middle-aged perfectly healthy person who is using ol' grand-paps car and handicap sticker pulling into the handicap spot, getting out, and trotting into the store. I swear at that point it gives me the urge to murder.

The following story isn't about a handicapped parking space, but it is about a *reserved* parking space. When I was in the Navy, for my first shore duty I was assigned as the Ordnance Officer of Naval Base, Norfolk VA, which meant I was on the staff of Commander, Naval Base, Norfolk VA, a two-star Admiral. Right outside Base Headquarters, there was a parking space with a two-star sign assigned to it. That was the Admiral's parking space and *only* the Admiral's parking space. Woe be it to the Duty Officer that isn't paying attention and allowed that parking space to be occupied when the Admiral arrives.

One day, I was that Duty Officer and a car pulled into that space. The car had a tag on the front that had two stars on it. My thought was that was odd since I knew the Admiral was out and wouldn't be back until later in the afternoon. Well out of the car hops a high school to college age kid and proceeds into the building, right past me in the Duty Office. I stopped him and told him he had to move that car. He proceeded to tell me (not arrogantly or anything) that he was the Admiral's son and that was the Admiral's car. I then advised him that that parking space was for the ADMIRAL, not for the Admiral's son or the Admiral's car and that he would have to park across the street if he had any business to do in the building. To his credit, he did not make a fuss and he did as I told him.

My only HUGE worry was that he was gonna tell Daddy the whole story and my arse was going to be reamed out the next day for fricking with the Admiral's family. But that didn't happen, so either Admiral's son didn't tell Dad because he knew that Dad was not going to be very sympathetic or he did tell Dad and Dad wasn't very sympathetic.

OK, that's an old man's "parking space" story. Everybody wake up.

I'm in that neck of the woods now. One of those areas that you can't find much to hate about it, but not a lot to love either.

I just wanted to make sure you knew that I agreed with you. I had the paperwork for 2 weeks and finally went to get the placard yesterday.

I didn't really have a choice in the matter because "she who must be obeyed" said that if I passed out somewhere because I had to walk that she wasn't even going to come visit me in the hospital!

Dad wouldn't have been sympathetic unless you were actually rude to the boy. His son arguing or make a scene reflects on him. Family misbehaving/embarrassing the Admiral/General can stall his/her career

On military parking spot stories, I heard the following snide remark from a general officer to a newly arrived colonel's wife one day

"That's a pretty nifty parking spot in front of the BX you found. I need to look into getting one for myself."

Colonel about had a heart attack hearing his wife took the boss' spot. From what I heard, She was confused by "General Officer" and last post they had a colonel designated spot
