ND is too low. Look at their youth - youngest team in the CFP and #2 wasn't close to them at all. They return a lot of their 2-deep.
PSU and esp Oregon both lost a lot.
AU maybe a little low, depending on how our kicking works out and of course Jackson Arnold. I'm thinking mid/high teens. SOS works against us, as always.
WRT to coaching vs TOs, etc - if our star kicker doesn't almost die in the offseason, OR our all-world highly rated backup kicker doesn't get the yips, we would be bitching about how close we came to making the CFP this early. Might need to add in that inexplicable goal line fumble by Alston too, that one would have flipped to a W as well.

Hasn’t even been a day yet and we are already top 5

5. Auburn
The top four is straightforward, but things get wacky at No. 5. Sure, Auburn suffered through a dismal 2024 campaign, but most of its issues came down to quarterback play. Hugh Freeze addressed that by bringing in not one, but two transfers in Oklahoma's Jackson Arnold and Stanford's Ashton Daniels.
Our Fanbase has PTSD, I'm almost certain of it. Lol
We went form 3-9 to the damn Natty before. Stop dwelling on the past

2023 & 2024 are not 2025. Literally

I feel we were a worse team in year 2 than year 1 under Freeze
I don't. Regardless of W/L record.
Thorne was better.
Hunter was better.
The WRs were better.
The OL was better.
The Defense was better. Had trouble getting off the field on 3rd downs tho.
No kicker. No return game. That cost us. And turnovers.

I think we can be a good to very good team. As I have been saying I'm going to wait to hear some things from spring. Also, we have to return to being a physical team. If we play hard, fast, and physical I can handle any of the outcomes.
Crazy to think about it but when you play physical the mental side takes care of itself.

If we aren’t at least the 23rd best team in Year 3 then everyone would consider that an epic coaching fail at a program like Auburn loaded with $$ paying boosters. There should be no more excuses when you have 3 recruiting classes and transfer portal seasons.
Your point is the actual point of the entire argument here and it is 100% valid. There is no way, we should not be in the top 25 by now. And there is absolutely no way we should be losing the games we are losing
But we are not a top 25 team and we are losing the games. Reality is a mother fricker and there is a huge difference in what we "want" to be and what actually "is"
Which is why I continue to say people are just hoping. They are hoping that Hugh Freeze all the sudden stops making huge bonehead coaching errors on and off the field which will take our top 25 talent (which we have) and actually be a top 25 team
Hasn't happened yet. Not even close.

We had this exact same discussion last off season and the exact same people were making the exact same argument and points.
Now we have a new QB (untested)
We lost our best receiver
We have a new starting RB (The guy leaving was one of our best players)
We still have the same coach making the same errors
Our kicker (LOL)
I typically trust and agree with most you say on this board and on your PC. Im just sitting here trying to get on board with why we are going to be a top 20 teams all the sudden. Everything is untested with this team. Just like last year
And I know you may not want to trust me but I DO hope you are right. I just dont see it

Two years in a row we got beaten multiple times AT HOME by teams we had equal to more talent than. Two years in.a row we built up hype on OL transfers that didn't pan out. Two years in a row we have QB carousels to start off the season, look completely unprepared for the first third of the season, soft, commit an abundance of penalties and turnovers. At what point is it coaching? Why is a guy - who on paper had less impressive stats than the QB everyone blames for the last two years - suddenly going to blow up this season? Coleman was ok, but I didn't see anything to suggest he's going to carry our offense this year. The schedule is easier, so I could see us sneaking into the top 25, but outside of homering, it's hard to understand the naked trust in Freeze at this point.

And we finished 14/16th in the SEC with all that improvement in year 2.
We are not good at football. Get that through your heads.
Will Year 3 make us better thsn 14th in the conference? We'll see.

We were not good at football last year but every shite program has to have a launching point if they are going to bounce up. I saw an identity trying to be formed last year versus the previous year where there was no identity, it was just doing anything that can work since there was so little talent.
Btw its hilarious you think we got worse. We got more L's despite better talent however that new talent just graduated high school. That new talent didnt have any veteran leadership they could learn from thus the freshmen were stuck with figuring it out on their own in conference play.

False. Some, yes …. but not most.
Auburn’s glaring lack of red zone production …points to root-cause OL and kicking problems
