Stuff from Jay Tate

quote:

Jay Jacobs appears to be safe in the short term, though we're hearing some credible chatter that Jacobs isn't part of Jay Gogue's long-term plan

Chizik chances of returning are remote even if he wins the Iron Bowl

He's heard a lot more about Petrino lately, support for him seems to be growing

Gus Malzahn is a fallback plan

Pat Dye likes Kirby Smart

Don't rule out Jeff Fisher and their GM just yet, there we approached and didn't reject

Fisher less likely than he was two weeks ago, gaining support in FSU by winning

I disagree. Him winning out now would give us the best chance for him to jump ship.

13-1, Orange Bowl birth, and nowhere near the top 5? Reason enough to jump to the SEC imo

I think Jeff Fisher and BVG is too much mustache for one team.

There is no such thing as too much mustache for one team.

This is consistent with what I understand and have been saying, Chizik is done (I still believe he and the assistants were told that a week ago, which is why an IB victory would not change things)...

Summary: People in position to take action (PIPTTA) are basically uniform in wanting Chizik out and an even an IB win would not change many if any minds.
-------------------
This is as good as time as any to talk about one of the things that went wrong with Chizik, he isolated himself from the players, the coaches, the fans, the boosters and even the PIPTTA. His ego got to big, he could not handle it.

1) The Players: Put Tim Jackson as the go-between between himself and the players. Jackson in charge of discipline, the curfew and yes the security force. Put a sophisticated lock on his door. Players had a very hard time seeing him. Did NOT visit the hospital when the shootings occurred. Plays favorites (Clint Mosely). The players HATE Tim Jackson and Tim was basically the co-head coach because Chizik wanted it that way.

2) The Coaches: Put a spy into each coordinators meetings (Jackson - offense.... Bolt Defense)

3) The Coaches: Yes Luper was mad at Chizik, not only for hiring a green OC, but in how he told him, and how he acted about it (you can take this and kiss my arse) Trooper, told to do what he does best, recruit... no need to help with the offense or the game plan. Also the players came to Trooper because of Tim Jackson. We all know how hard it is to deal with Tim Jackson.

4) The Fans: Stopped taking calls on the radio, questions at the Booster Club Meetings, question at the Scholarship Weekend. Moved the invited scrimmage from the practice fields to JH to keep the coaches and players away from the Scholarship boosters. Banned the BIG money Boosters from practice.

Tim Jackson begging for his and Chiziks job did not sit well with the folks he had mistreated through the years. (Powerful people)

5) Former Players: Banned them from practice

I think Jeff Fisher would be a home run, but is probably unlikely.

Jimbo would be an upgrade, but I do not think home run hire. Also, I think if FSU beats UF this weekend it is less likely and FSU will do what it takes to keep him.

I still think Petrino would win and win big at AU. If he had BVG as well, it would remind me of the Gators in the 90's with Spurrier (the best offensive mind in the game at the time) and Stoops (a great defensive co-ordinator at the time).

Kirby Smart is a backup plan to me. He would be a huge risk, but could be Muschamp II as well. I personally do not believe he is ready and needs another 2 years under saban at a minimum. Muschamp spent a lot of time under saban learning all he could. In contrast, chizik spent 2 years under Tubbs, then a couple under a subpar Mack Brown and he was not really ready and didn't learn enough under a quality HC (Tubbs in this case). So, I think Smart needs a few more years to learn before he is ready.

Malzahn - do not want. Like him for his time here, but would be a massive gamble with a higher probability of failure and potentially massive failure, than is even reasonable to seriously consider.

Anyone except Kirby... Kirby is the old school pick (Dye, etc.) who gave us Chizik....

I would roll the dice with any of them first and yes that includes Petrino.

My list is sorta in order of overall best hire when considering risk/reward. However, I think Petrino and Jimbo are interchangeable as I think Petrino has substantially more upside than Jimbo, but a lot more risk as well with the negative PR and recruiting difficulties (which may or may not be fixed at AU).

So baseball analogy:

Fisher = HR
Jimbo = Double
Petrino = Double that could turn into a triple or could get thrown out at 3rd
Smart = Single
Mahlzahn = Bunt attempt. Maybe gets on base, maybe not

This makes zero sense. I LOVE to hear that Jacobs isn't favored by Gogue, but if he's not your guy, why keep him around for the "short term"?

Him and Chizik deserve to go out together!

With Petrino's speed, it would be at least an automatic triple with a chance to be a HR

Anyone hearing anything about Petersen? Booster buddy of mine brought it up as a name he heard from someone down there.

i wonder what the current state of the ACC has on Jimbo and FSU?... would conference uncertainty play a role in looking at a change?

Home Run hire? Peterson of Boise St would be a HR, Fisher even if that seems a far reach. (Is there anything credible out there to suggest Fisher is a viable option?)

KS don't want (no proof that Saban is letting him do his thing as DC.)

Jimbo don't really want, but whatever.

Petrino definitely don't want.

Malzahn I really wouldn't mind seeing him at the helm. I think he says BVG the defense is yours let's go kick arse, but wouldn't ardently push for his hire either.

so, in other words, you're gonna b*tch no matter who we hire?

No not really. Not the bitching type. Just saw what others were writing and decided to put down my thoughts. Didn't think what I wrote was bitching at all, sorry you took it that way. Please by all means explain to me how you came up with me bitching from my post?
