I think the spread option is near unstoppable with the right athletes.

I don't think you're going to beat defensive teams like Alabama and LSU with the pro style unless you have their ridiculous amounts of depth.

I don't know why our fans hate the spread. We won a national championship with it. Zero national championships with pro-style.

Guess I'll just leave this here.......

Buddy of mine was around Pat Dye this week. Pat didn't say much about the coaching deal, but did say this:

1. Chiz is gone
2. Fisher and Petrino are not in it
3. They (????) are looking for a younger, energetic coach

There are only several people I'd trust my life with and this guy is one of them. TIFWIW.

My buddy did say that ol Pat was lucid and sharp as a tack.

FWIW, Jimbo Fisher's only 45... I'm not sure anyone under the age of 40 is ready to run a major program, IMO.

Yea, 45 isn't that old for a HC of a major university

I said it once and I will say it again, James Franklin would be a fantastic hire. The program needs someone who can come in and energize the team. Especially after the season we've had. He can recruit AND develop which we haven't had in a long time.

The correct answer here is Malzahn.

I don't hate the spread. I would just like a physically dominant team on both sides of the ball. Just a preference.

That's not realistic, though. LSU has a very good D, and an average O. They haven't won anything since Saban went to bama. Saban's the best coach in the game, so it doesn't make since to try and copy what he's doing. We'll never beat him at what he does.

I understand what you're saying, but I still think we could run a pro set and have success. Big O-line with big RB and physical WR. USC in it's glory days or Stanford under Harbough.

only one BCSNC(2007) and two SEC titles(2007 & 2011)... and they beat him in 2010.

Les Miles is something like 3-4 against Saban. So it's not like they can't beat Alabama. And a couple of those losses i would blame Miles for.

He's 2 of 6 since 08. One of those wins was last year, when Saban got the rematch.

Sounds like a James Franklin or Willie Taggart type.

Exactly, you are making it much harder on yourself when you mimic a team that recruits more consistently and better than you, cause you are generally going to be at a bit of a disadvantage form a talent perspective (maybe not a huge disparity if we are recruiting as we are capable of, but it will still be there most years with with Saban at Bama). We need a way to offset that talent difference, and running the exact same setup is not it, we need a better offense than what Bama and LSU run to beat them.

And the only people to really give Bama much trouble on the defensive side of ball with Saban there have been spread teams with mobile QBs.

A running spread offense with a mobile QB that can throw a decent deep ball is nearly impossible to stop if you have similar talent to your opponent.

Which means you know nothing about football. Malzahn non-scouting arse is a huge part of the mess we are in right now.

We won a NC with Cam Newton, the greatest collge player in at least the last decade.

Ill repost what I did yesterday for you

quote:

Yeah maybe against the Sisters of the Poor like Furman. Lets look at what it did in SEC play without Newton..

2009 2011 average

Moo St: 49 41 45

Arky: 23 16 19.5

LSU: 10 10 10

OM: 33 41 37

UGA: 24 7 15.5

Gumps: 21 14 17.5

Without Cam he averaged 15.6 against the non-Mississippi schools in SEC play. I would say that is broken. Plus his non-scouting arse is the reason we do not have a QB. He recruited the Mocha Nightmare, I do not want him back.

Lets also include that we scored 14 points against Kentucky in 2009. And 22 points against Tennessee. And 17 points against moo St in 2010 with Cam.
