The PTB will probably go with Durkin.

Silverfield is solid. Look back at the Memphis coaching tree (assistants and HC) since 2015. It’s impressive.

Yeah, i'd be good with Freeman, but don't think it'll happen. like i said, want a defensive minded guy.

Why’s that? Because Tennessee actually scores a lot of points against good opponents? Yeah, I don’t trust that either.

Probably. And then we’ll fire up this thread again in a year and half from now.

Throw a bunch of money at Schumann and tell him we’re in it for the long haul. Ace recruiter. Great defensive coach that’s learned under Saban and Smart for his whole college coaching career. He’s young and likely going to be a great head coach one day. Might as well give him the opportunity to do it with us.

This thUGA defense is probably one of the worst I’ve seen under Kirby. I’m not so sure about him being a great defensive coach.

As of right now I am calling Sumrall.

Alabama ties. High school and at Troy
Defense
I like Sumrall.

But Cohen has a bad record of hiring head football coaches.

There are several schools who've been successful hiring assistant coaches to be their head coach, including:

Ohio State
Oregon
Georgia
Clemson
Georgia Tech
Virginia
Mississippi State

I'm somewhat in favor of us finding an elite coordinator to be our next head coach.

Then you need to look at Stein at Oregon.

We are in the new era of NIL.

We need technical competence on the offensive side of the ball.

There are names we need to throw cash at either as a coordinator (Durkin head coach) or head coach. Some are old, but they are proven.

Franklin is in his 15th season as a HC. This is normally the time when "good" coaches start declining rapidly (the drive is gone and fatigue sets in, focus is waning, their system becomes dated and isn't up to par with the current meta across college football, etc). Do not for one second believe that because Franklin won games at Penn State that it will be a given that he will assure anything similar at Auburn. The coaches who remain elite 15+ years into their career are your true outliers like Saban, Spurrier, etc. There are not that many HC's who remain relevant beyond 15 years at this job.

He is now going to be ~$50M richer with his buyout. What motivation does he actually have at this point, considering that he could never find the motivation to win a big game at Penn State anyway? Guys like this will take the job and say that they are motivated, but you saw that with Freeze already: once he got punched in the mouth on the field, his motivation evaporated real quick.

Ask Penn State fans how he killed it against Top 5-10 or even ranked opponents. Look up his record.

Penn State fans are celebrating tonight.
