I was frustrated watching the whole game. KD played great. JWill was inconsistent, but overall had a pretty good game. Everyone else played pretty poorly.
Aden has to expand his offensive game to include finishing at the rim, breaking down the defense and creating for others off the dribble/drive, and forcing his way to the line when he gets defenders out of position. Broome’s effort and intensity level are way too inconsistent. I think the team was over confident after Saturday’s results and it showed.
Having said that, if we can have a pretty bad game and get a good conference win, that’s encouraging. Also, if KD can consistently give the quality he gave last night - same intensity as always with slightly more control offensively and good decision making - that makes this team that much more dangerous.
I would like to see this team learn from tonight and come out with more focus Saturday in a game they are suppose to win.

It was fun watching this team get challenged for the first time in a month, against a potential tournament team, and finding a way to win. The team needed this and should learn and grow from it.
The best thing the team does offensively is share the ball and not turn it over. We had 4 turnovers in the first half, and then 7 in the first few minutes of the second half, before settling in and only having one more the final 10 minutes. The guards are a big piece of that and they compliment each other well. Agreed I would like to see Aden figure out how to score inside and get to the line to take his game to the next level, but both do a great job of setting up teammates, playing within the offense, and are capable of hitting big shots.
KD has become a much more consistent player this year and really give us a spark off the bench. He is making the extra pass more this year and shooting 33% from 3. Dylan Cardwell has become a difference maker this year which is huge when Broome has an off night- he was huge in the first half last night. Jaylin Williams is THAT guy and it is so fun to see him finally play to his potential.
My only real concern with this team is guys 9-11 on the bench. Lior, Moore, and Chaney can get lost at times and be a liability. We had to play a few a few guys nearly 30 minutes last night. I would really like to see Moore and Chaney find their role on this team and play a little more consistent in SEC play. Our biggest strength is our depth and the fact that we don't rely on any one guy, but don't feel great about the end of our bench after tonight.

I'm fine with Moore IF he just immediately reverses the ball when he gets it and crashes the offensive glass a little more. I don't want him taking any 3's even if he is wide open and I certainly don't want him dribbling. Chaney and Lior I honestly just don't know if they can hang at this level. Chaney has shown flashes here and there but the moment always seems too big for him when there is real game pressure. I've been saying Lior can't be out there for 3 years now so not going to belabor the point there

Berman and Moore are you get what you see, 100% effort, not the most offensively productive but probably won't lose you a game because of their minutes. Moore got 11 last night and Berman only 2. I'll give Moore this, he will mix it up in the paint and there's some value in that. For Chaney, the jump to big boy ball has been a struggle. At times offensively (albeit few) he looks competent but for the most part he looks uncomfortable with the speed at this level. Defensively, I think he's improved since the beginning but has a long way to go. And like the other two, he got limited minutes last night, only 5. All 3 provide rest for others that has paid off and will continue as the season grind wears on.
It's rare for Bruce to play anybody over 30 min in a typical game but last night was not typical. It was a street fight, just find the right combination of dudes and get them in the game as much as possible and at the right times...especially the last 5 minutes. And because of that, job well done.
eidt, I see auburnnyc94 beat me to the punch...

Jared had the same issues his freshman year. It's a big change from high school. I'd like to see him develop more of a short mid-range game. I think that suits his style and athleticism. If someone steps up to defend it then it's an easy dump off for a dunk

Handling taller, lengthier guards requires craftinesses and confidence. Jared Harper didnt step into Auburn knowing how to dismantle Kentucky the way he did. He learned his way.
For me personally I felt I had to force things when I played against lengthier opponents in my high school days. Low confidence and altering normal shot movement was a thing until I learned a few tricks. Confidence then came back.

Already so confident in this AU team that I'll be rooting against UK, UT, and Bama every time out because I think we have a real shot at another regular season title

quote:Agree. It’s definitely a change from high school ball that takes some players time to learn. In high school/AAU he was getting some of those easy buckets and free throws that are absent for him now. He is a good shooter with a ton of confidence, so it’s easy to settle for a three, even a deep one, because in his mind that’s a bucket. I expect he will learn to score on multiple levels. Mid-range and forcing his way to the line are probably the next steps in that progression.

Bama sucks, they ain’t gonna do it. UT and UK are unfortunately legit. We need them to beat each other. We get UK at home, we can win that. Then we play UT on the road. That’s probably a loss but never know.

I think the analytics get used improperly by a lot of fans and they are imperfect, but they are usually good enough and have enough data at this point to tell us reliably that Bama doesn’t suck.

I think the analytics are spot on regarding Bama. Great offensive team, extremely lackluster defensively.
I think they’re actually a little fuzzier on us on the offensive side of the ball. We’re dangerous when we’re on but have a tendency to dry spell that makes that metric swing about a bit. Defensively I think it has us down pat.

Agree with that. Looking too far out, we likely only get 4 more games against quad 1 teams (could be more depending on what UF and the Mississippi schools do). We really need to win at least 2 of those to avoid discussions about our schedule and ability to beat top teams.
Our schedule isn’t easy cupcakes, but it isn’t loaded with top teams either. I am anxious to see this team beat some Quad 1 teams.

I’m still a believer Arkansas will somewhat figure things out. If they can just get the top 75 in the NET that’s a Q1 win for us. That would probably require them going 10-8 or 9-9 in the SEC which I do think their roster is capable of.
A&M would have to get to top 30 so they would have to go on a tear for us. Need St Bonaventure to get to top 50 (they are 60 right now)
Edit: @UT, Bama, @Bama, @ MSU, Kentucky, @ Florida are all sure to be Q1 opportunities. So there's 6. @Ole Miss also could end up being Q1 as well as MSU at home.
