Happy to report Jared Harper got real minutes tonight in the second half. Had 7 points and 3 assists in 8 min.

I remember all your horrible Kessler takes because it surprised me just how bad they were. Hands down the worst early takes on an Auburn player I've seen on this board.

First guy in 25 years to have a triple double against a 10-0 or better team.

Everyone on here loves the gotcha's but in defense of anyone that said anything about Kessler the first 5 games of the season compared to the last 5 games, he's basically a totally different player. He needed to find his role and it's still expanding.

I’ve never been more wrong about a player. I was glad we signed him but worried he would hurt as times and thought he might be a weird fit.

Just seeing how you called me out but look at my above post ^ lol I was already ready to eat it. I was worried he would be Wiley best case who I thought didn’t fit our style of play at times but he is 2x better than the best of Wiley already.

I do worry Bama will try to run Kessler off the court still like they did to a few good bigs last year but I think he is good enough on offense to where it won’t matter. They’ll do a good job of pulling him out of the paint on defense though.

He’s not a weird fit. Feeding the big man seems to be a tall task though pun intended. Jabari had one excellent pass to him down low.

As for Bama’s backcourt vs Auburn’s front court. It will be a test of strength v strength. If KD and Zep are forcing bad 3 point attempts I like our chances

Some North Carolina posts a guy has found on the North Carolina board. Throughout the season many Auburn fans on rivals has been invading the North Carolina boards over the Kessler transfer

quote:

From a thread about the day's games that became mostly about Kessler:

Watching Walker Kessler is tough. He’s a dude.

---

Kessler looking really good

---

Walker Kessler is a stud.

Period.

14 points 10 rebounds 8 blocks so far…

We REALLY miss his rim protection.

---

******* parents...

---

There it is.

---

There's what? I didn’t say f his parents, I said f'n parents. As in, it's too bad they were so involved in deciding where Walker would play basketball. If they let him decide for himself, it’s very possible he's still at Carolina.

---

Kessler closing in on a triple double.

Unreal.

---

He got it, 11 blocks; just wow

---

Sheesh.

Wonder if his parents now agree that he's a center?

---

SEC basketball is what the ACC use to be. It is just a better product, with better players playing harder and fans cheering louder. Speaking about Kessler, a non bias opinion would be he made a better choice regardless of family reasons.

---

How is Auburn a better choice?

---

Have you watched them? If so, do they look like the better program?

I have watched several of their games and it isn't close.

---

1) They are a better team this season.

2) They play in a better conference this season.

3) Currently, they have a more proven coach.

4) He is closer to his home

He has more blocks than our entire team combined.

---
11 blocks is insane

---

Kessler could have been in the paint blocking shots for Carolina too. He did that well for us in limited minutes.

But he didn't want to bang in the post, he wanted to play on the perimeter....

at least that was the explanation i recall for his transfer.

---

The people on this board that tried to say garcia > kessler.... womp womp womp. I commend Coach Davis for doing everything but locking him in his room, to get him to stay. If chad hadn’t been such a chad it wouldn’t suck so much. Everyone could see the potential if he let the Kevin Durant fantasies go and it’s frustrating because HE wanted UNC, and that slimeball Pearl was in his parents ear all season.
[/quote]
From a thread about ACC players transferring that also became mostly about Kessler:

The player who transferred is really good on defense. Switched on to Days and stayed with him all the way to rim and blocked his fourth shot in seven minutes and then got and one. Then altered shot on next possession and hit turn around free throw. Hes very good.

---

Wish I had never turned on this Auburn game. Kessler looks like a monster.

---

That’s because he is a monster.

We can ****** and moan all we want about what kind of person his dad is and all that, but he is a clear stud.

14 points 9 rebounds 8 blocks on a top 10 team in the nation.

---

Roy misused him last year, minutes wise..

After that Florida State game, Kessler should have started and played 20+ minutes every night out. Remember how dominate we were in that ACC tournament game when the only bigs we had were Kessler, Bacot, and sharpe?

He made the right choice. Clearly. Auburn is a final four team.

---

No doubt Roy completely mismanaged the Kessler situation. He did a lot of great things that I have praised him for but he bungled that one. Everyone makes mistakes. That was a big one.

---

It was obvious that he needed to be playing more minutes than Brooks and be the first big off the bench for 20+ min IMHO.

---

He averages just under 4 blocks a game. Pretty wild. We miss that presence.

---

SEC and Big Ten going to continue to lap the ACC in basketball. As noted, the football monies have vaulted both leagues above the ACC in basketball. ACC TV monies dwarfed by what SEC and Big Ten receive. That is not changing anytime soon. IMHO, big reason why Carolina should entertain being added to the SEC or Big Ten.

From other threads:

Kessler. What a night he had, we sure could use him this season! Errrrrr

---

What's the UNC record for blocked shots in a game? And why did the Kessler Walker thread get deleted? Sure looks like a pu-sy move to delete it now.

---

Damn. Prior to that game, Kessler had one more block (44) than the entire UNC team (43). Then he went and got 11 blocks in one game.

---

What's the over/under on Kessler threads for the remainder of the season?

---

Thank you Roy...

---

Roy Williams was not wrong. Kessler is not shooting a ton of threes at Auburn; he is successful playing the role of a traditional center. He is blocking shots, rebounding and generally scoring around the basket. I think he is like 4 for 24 or something from three for the season. If anything, the way Kessler is being used at Auburn proves that Coach Williams was more right than wrong about how Kessler should be used. Kessler could have taken 24 threes at Carolina had he stayed and Coach Davis would not bat an eye. Kessler floating around the three point line more than a couple of times per game and trying to guard on the perimeter would take him away from what he does best. Wish his parents could have seen it and he was still at Carolina.

---

Averaged 20 points. 14 rebounds and 4 blocks per 40 minutes shooting 58% from the field, yet only got 8 minutes per game. Yeah, somebody didn't see something.

---

Thank you tampering Pearl

That’s some great stuff. Good find.
The lineup of WG-KD-AF-JS-WK is the most complete lineup in the country. It has absolutely everything. Great shooting, great defense, guys who can penetrate and kick, guys who can get to the foul line. I understand wanting to not mess with what’s been working but I think Wendell has earned that starting spot back

I like this comment the best. It points towards Auburn Basketball being a Blue blood program just as I have been touting the last few years.

Don't worry about Alabama. They play with a big guy too, so that will negate their quickness.

I watched some of the Tenn game last night, and they had a big who Alabma struggled with too.

Kessler won't be a problem, as he gets up and down pretty well. And Alabma is going to try to do their damage from 3 range like they always do under Oats.

We need to play better arc defending more than anything else.

You’re probably right. And the more I thought about it.. Herb Jones is 100% the reason they were able to play bigs off the court last season. They don’t worry me at all. I think Kentucky and LSU are our biggest conference threats. UT and Bama are both solid but seem to be lacking “it.”

LSU is going to struggle to score all year… they’re going to be a bunch of tight games bc of it.

Their game next week against UK will be interesting… real possibility they open 0-2.

I liked their toughness last night. That will keep them getting back off the mat even if they do start conference play 2-4 or something. Their next two are UK and UT but both are at home. They will win at least one of those
