I didn’t think our selection was all that bad. Missed a ton of good looks in the second half. I didn’t watch first half though

I want to use Jaylin Williams in a point forward role more. He’s a playmaker

He’s the best passer on the team.

I love Williams’ game in the post. Even when he was a freshman he could drive, make a physical move, and put it in the hole. He just has that ability.. Sometimes it looks like he banged the ball too hard off the glass yet it still goes in. His weakness is his perimeter game.

Not strictly game / performance related but I could only listen in tonight and I hate to admit it but it may be coming time for Sonny to hang up the mic. Doesn’t seem quite as sharp as seasons past. Bring on the downvotes if it’s been mentioned already or if I’m being too harsh, but I had that thought several times tonight and even a time or two last game.

Something tells me he’s going to light us up this year when we play them

Have to agree our 3 shooting was basically Person’s involvement. We do need a for real shooting coach on the team tho. Been saying it a couple years.

However someone said Bruce doesn’t run offense he does it’s just late clock offense. It’s pick/pop or pick/roll. That’s why Greene has to hit the roller sometimes and he hasn’t been. Plus Bruce has really good under the goal offense and defensive sets.

Bingo. Bruce is a very good offensive coach, he just likes to give guys opportunities and freedom to make plays on their own early in the shot clock. That's why you'll see us pass it around a little or run a couple screens and then reset if nothing is there. Just because it's not some motion offense doesn't mean there isn't a rhyme and reason to it. Bruce loves to throw some backdoor cuts in there too.

Disagree on Person being the difference in shooting. Bryce was a good shooter the day he showed up as was Jared. They made incremental improvements every year on their own long after Person was gone. Samir never even met Person.

They still train with him.

Cambridge showed up and knocked down 34% his freshman year which is higher than Brown’s 31% his freshman year. So Cambridge also has the goods to shoot the three yet we are missing the fundamental coaching

Brown shot 37% from 3FG his FR year and 39% in SEC play.

Browns mechanics were incredible when he showed up.

Cambridge has college Lonzo ball mechanics

His mechanics aren’t off by that much. Cambridge made 37% in conference play as a freshman. I have no doubt in my mind that his shot is serviceable. Some of the extreme levels of streakiness is due to coaching. I don’t know what kind of practice reps he is getting but he is regressing badly. Af least Lonzo is making progress.

Jared does work out with him now but there was almost a three year gap where he didn’t even see him. Bryce and Cambridge aren’t comparable as shooters. You can’t just look at percentages. We signed Bryce because he came to our Elite Camp in 2014 and showed he could absolutely fill it up. We signed Cambridge because he’s a ridiculous athlete

My main point is that we don’t have good shooting because we haven’t made it a recruiting priority. We’ve signed one great shooter since Bryce and he transferred to UT. Jared was a good shooter, Samir was a good shooter

Devan Cambridge averaged 38% from 3 on high school. I am not buying that we signed him for the dunks.I think we signed him to shoot the 3 well and to be a more athletic Bryce.

Which makes no sense. Bruce himself said NCAA is a guards game. He was studying the Lakers roster to figure out how to coach what he has which makes me believe he is just winging it.

Why are we comparing Bryce and Cambridge. Totally different players.

I just look at shooting percentages of the team while we had Person and after.

However never seen a college team as hot as our team from the sec tournament through the ncaa tournament run to the final 4. That is engraved in our minds but that was a perfect storm of clutch plays and great shooting by many players

FWIW, Powell isn’t starting for UT right now… and he’s looked like shite vs Villanova.

Our guard play has been very frustrating so far this year, but I’m not sure Powell would be starting on this team either.

And to all the guys reminiscing about Person…. He got fired and the team shot unbelievably in the 2019 season. Maybe he was the reason we were so good… but that’s a hell of a coincidence.

Why because one is more athletic than the other? The only way he sniffs the NBA will be 3 and D.
