I saw a lot of predictions of 4th and 5th preseason by people on the board.
Hell, there was a stretch this season after Cooper started playing where I thought we’d get there
I just assumed the team would keep getting better and obviously never thought that Justin Powell would be out the rest of the way

They are not great with him, terrible without him.
If he leaves next year, not sure how they will all the sudden be great.

They better learn how to play defense. Lord knows they don't know how to now.

It would take improvement from all the young guys (very possible) plus adding a legitimate point guard, whether that is Scoot reclassifying or a high end transfer (somewhat possible). Those two things along with the additions of Jabari and Alexander would equal a very good team.

They have plenty of room to improve defensively and most likely will. They will have actually have time to hit the weight room and get some practice in.

I thought we would get there too, and there was proof we were:
Remember, we lost our first 3 SEC games, then Sharife finally got to play the Alabama game. Even though we lost that game, we gave them a hell of a run.
Then we win 4 out of the next 5 including beating KY and Mizz, and barely lost to Ark on the road.
I think then after the Baylor game, teams changed how we were defended, especially Cooper, and we have struggled ever since, with poor D and a lack of inside power and stregnth, and no other good ball handler(Powell).
Typical of the youngest team in NCAAs. Hit that wall, lack of veteran leadership to help overcome it...
So, I think we could have gotten there...but we now know we have talent, but weaknesses in areas that have kept us from getting to that level of 4th/5th....

Agreed with all of the above. Lack of scoring punch at the wing position eventually wouldn't let us over the hump. Powell could have gotten us there if he is as good as I think he is.

Let's hope this TN game goes better!
Positives so far is Flanigan looks like he’s learning how to score off the ball and I’m liking the effort on rebounds. Defense has also been better when they are able to get set and know what to do. On the flip side, defense has looked awful when things get a little chaotic.
