I need a little education here or I'm having covid-19 amnesia.
Why would a player be a 5* in 2021, but a 4* in 2020? Is it bc they expected him to improve more with another year in HC that he would eventually be a 5*?
Or is the reason something else?
It happens to most players in football & basketball when they reclassify. Tega in football went from a 5* in the 2016 class to a 4* ranked 113 overall in the 2015 class. Wiley went from a 5* #16 in the 2017 class to a 4* #35 in the 2016 class. It's a combination of things. Typically recruiting sites have evaluated the current crop of SRs a lot more than the following class. When they rank kids who have reclassified they usually haven't seen as much from them as the others in the class they reclassified to. They have less information to go on & in many cases the jump to the earlier class doesn't let sites see the development from said player they expected to see in their original SR year before they reclassified.

Also 5* players are expected to have significant contributions as FR / 1nDone potential

Reclassified guys are often not quite that

FWIW Hooks says Green is not a done deal to either school & this week will be a roller coaster.

Green needs to watch the 30 minute video that Marcello and Neihbur did today. They present a pretty damn compelling case as to why he should choose Auburn

Basketball recruiting guy Jake Weingarten of StockRisers supposedly just said on his Instagram live show that he feels Auburn does lead for Greg Brown and has for a while and expects Brown to pick AU next Friday.

If you want exposure then AU over Memphis all day. If we close with Thor, Green. And Brown. I can’t imagine. I’d assume that puts us at number 2 nationally in the class rankings. Even if Green is 1 and done I don’t think Cooper or Brown are 1 and done players because the strength and defense required to play in the nba.

And add in a dynamic shooter in powell and rebounder put back guy in Moore. Next year and the year after could get very interesting.

I don’t know about the defense part but brown definitely has the strength and physicality to play in the NBA. I actually lean towards him being a one and done.

So rather than refrain from ranking the talking heads rate the reclassified anyway?

(on conjecture?)

Seems like grounds for dismissal and a good way to get rid of the true homers.

Big question for me right now, without Cardwell or a grad transfer big, who can split minutes with Stretch at the 5? Jaylin Williams and Chris Moore seem to be the 2 candidates, and I’m not sure if they are suited for it. Haven’t seen enough of them to know

IE: if someone doesn't know about the players they're ranking then they're not doing their job very well.

For instance how many of the top guys do you have a good feel for (know)? And how well would you if your job?

It’s not that they don’t know about them. In most cases there’s not as much film on them to evaluate whether it be games or camps or what not as kids who are going to be seniors. Juniors that reclassified to another class usually don’t do so until their last semester before the preceding class. There’s just not as many opportunities to evaluate them. That combined with the recruit not being in high school as long as the class they are reclassifying to means in most cases evaluators aren’t going to see the development they were looking for had they been a standard high school student that didn’t graduate a year early.

Given as much as A-Mac did being only 6'7 Thor, Moore, & even Brown can too some even though I know he wants to spend most of his time as a wing. Jaylin Williams can also. If we land Brown, counting Stretch, that's 5 guys that can play some at the "5".

Bossi seems to be sticking with his JG to Auburn prediction for now. Says a lot of rumors will be thrown around this week.

I'm still sticking to my thought that no one knows anything here. I'd say AU-Memphis-Pro is 34/33/33

My gut feel: AU gets Brown and Green commits to Memphis but goes pro. Not sure why but that's just my gut feeling for now.
