That one popped up quick. We hit the basement right when the weather radio lit off. It went just slightly to my north. Things were hairy for a minute there.

In Trussville as well and that came out of nowhere. Amazing and frightening

Have family on 280. Across from Eagle Point (Highland lakes). The tornado hammered the ridge at the front end of the neighborhood. Family is ok though. Went right over them. Crazy stuff.

Wife’s aunt is on 3rd street in Helena, apparently tornado hit on 1st & 2nd. Heard that they are fine.
We’re headed through that area in a few hours. Shades of 4/27/11. We drove through that mess as it was happening. Managed to miss all the twisters fortunately (although not by much).

Let me take a moment to say that James Spann is the best broadcast meteorologist in America.

Indeed he is and it’s due to the fact that he knows geography better than anyone else.
Unfortunately his backup is a mess in the air which is why I found myself watching JP Dice more often yesterday.

Prefer him to Spann TBH.

It's awesome. If the most recognizable landmark is a trashy strip-club then, damn it, he's going to let everyone north of Wesley's Booby Trap know they're clear but the people to the south need to be in their safe place.

Think it’s a little more than that.
Yesterday was a great example. Tornado is hitting his house with his wife in it and he’s still on air because he thinks his job is that important.
Plus as the last poster said, not afraid to use things like the strip club as a landmark. He just wants to get you the most useful information possible.
Seems like a very down to earth guy and really knows his shite

Commitment does have a lot to do with it, you’re right. I read his book recently and it makes sense why he’s so committed to it. It’s all he’s ever wanted to do.
My statement about geography was meant to include the landmarks with which he utilizes all over the state.

One of the few remaining meteorologists who doesn't believe in climate change.

I like Spann and JP about the same but I prefer Fox 6's graphics much better.

To clarify, he believes in climate change but not in global warming.
The whole climate change debate is funny to me. Very few people will argue the fact that the earth is constantly either heating up or cooling down.

My Aunt's best friend was killed in ohatchee. Spent many summers with her and my aunt when I was young. First time I've had someone close die in a tornado. Guess I can say I'm happy I sent out the warning early to them, just wish I could have done more.
