I know we were #1 a couple weeks ago but a sweet 16 appearance for auburn basketball is still a tremendous accomplishment. Y’all football only fans don’t realize how hard March madness is. Basketball is so much different than football in that we see the best team from start to finish win it most of the time. Hell, kentucky was 39-0 going to the final 4 a couple years ago and lost. All it takes is 1 and you’re done in March. And basketball it’s very easy to have an off night or come across an opponent who is hot on that day or matches up with you perfectly even if you are the “better” team

Every game we have loss was with a Nike Ball. The rest of the season including the SEC, NCAA and regular season is with a Wilson Ball. We

We can win the SEC outright if we win the last two games. HUGE. We can win the SEC Tourney as well. We could win the NCAA tourney too if things were to happen just right.

I think our seed (#1-#2) will get us to the Sweet Sixteen barring an upset. However, on ball pressure gives us fits and part of that is length and part is that Greene just doesn't have a great handle. Pearl mentioned this lack of good PG play in the UT game and also all the way back to UK. Its an issue and it is what it is.

I just rubbed elbows in Knoxville in Section 102 with a UT-goatee gorilla that didn't want me there. Cheering on the Tigers. I'm not trying to be a negative Nancy. The issues are there for all to see. Plus in this game UT got seemingly every loose ball and rebound.

Agree.
I do wonder why we are not playing ZJ more minutes at PG, especially with the way WG has been shooting and turning it over. Whenever we have anyone beside Zep running point, we are a turnover machine, and seem to take more early long 3's.
Our best 3 point shooter (shooter period for that matter) by far is a 6'10" wing. He should be getting the ball constantly, not standing on the perimeter watching a sub 30% shooter throw up 25 footers.
I understand what Pearl is doing, but it can be frustrating when guys try to do too much instead of recognizing the hot hand on a given night, and trying to keep feeding them.

Zep Jasper could not handle the ball well enough Saturday to run the offense effectively. It was a little concerning to see. Now those UT guards are particularly quick and good defensively but Zep kept getting pushed off his spot and was struggling making simple passes to initiate the O.

At this point it’s hard to not agree with this.

We’ve taken 3 losses recently and it easily could’ve been 2 more with Missouri and Georgia.

Every game seems to look the same on the road. Awful offense, good defense, and hope the other team doesn’t score late.

Zep is underappreciated, he may not always be the best shot taker, but he sets up things so well sometimes.

Maybe. I'm frustrated with our guard play and offense like everyone else.

FWIW I don't even think the UConn lost means anything. It's a fine loss to begin with, but we were a different team and they might be too. So I'm ignoring it for now.

The other losses are to two teams who play at a top 10 level (at least at home) and a third team that is a hard matchup for us. All three were close games and away. And all three were lost at a time when we were struggling with half court O.

So as annoyed as I am by it, this team is at worst capable of very close games with top 10 level teams in very hostile environments. Anyone else - we beat. So the reality is that even with a somewhat slumping offense, we're still capable of hanging with any team in the country at their place, most likely. That is a decent resume for the tournament even without improvement.

If we don't warm up a little more, yeah, we'll likely meet a good team that executes well and may well get bounced before we want to. But if we don't lay an egg, there is a very good chance we win the first two. And if so, a good matchup, a strong individual performance, an off game by a good opponent, all those things could see us through to deeper in the tournament. Of course I'd prefer our shots start falling and we get hot at the right time, but even if that doesn't happen this is a team that good grind to the E8 or better.

Anyway, it's frustrating, but the reality is that the tournament is a crapshoot and we're going to be one of the best teams in it. No team is going to be head and shoulders better than we are even playing like we are.

The only loss all season that honestly irritates me is UF. Still wasn't a bad loss but we are better team than them even on the road and we should have won. The guard play is frustrating at times but I also still really like our guards. They aren't perfect but they are competitive as heck and bring some good things to the table. When they play well, they are good enough to help our frontcourt beat anybody, anywhere.

I don't know the inability to get a quality shot off at arkie and UF on the last possession is way more of an issue for me than the actual loses. Win the last two and none of this matters. We area a flawed team but so is everyone else.

I wonder if Zep had a case of the ol' mono?
It would explain the sudden missing of 2 games, the reduced minutes played, and the way he seems to be lethargic and (just not the same).
I had mono at 18. Got sicker than I have ever been, or have been since, and even being a pretty athletic/in-shape 18 year old, I didn't feel 100% for a couple of months. Also, the shite hit me in less than 12 hours from feeling fine, to feeling like I might not be able to stand up for more than a minute without grabbing for something to help me stay on my feet, and hope there is something close by to puke into.
Just a thought.

But our road games even against weaker teams such as Mizz and GA resulted in fighting for our lives to get the win.

This pattern has followed us the last 5-6 away games. Teams have watched enough film and figured how to stop certain plays we run that were highly successful.

Its up to PEarl and the PGs partculary who need to adjust and find other open players when the defenses come up and either double team the PG or pressure at the top of the key when Kessler comes up to screen and help Greene.

If not every away game and even neutral site games could be a problem.

I feel like we've been getting pretty good shots off the last few games. At some point though if Green doesn't turn it around he needs to turn into a drive and kick player. I think he has special shot making ability but he's in a funk and it's time to crawl out of it or try again next year.

I'd say dial up the Zep minutes and dial back the Green minutes. We can't win games giving up so many possessions. Even if Zep is not a scorer.

Regardless of shooting or how hot we are from 3 our guards have to get to the rim. KD does. The rest settle for jumpers. How long has it been since Wendell hit a layup? That’s when our pick and roll is at its best when Wendell has the opportunity to kick to Jabari if help comes to double Kessler. Continue to drive and lay it in or lob to Kessler if help comes. It’s really a simple play but not taking the layup is keeping the Other teams center sagging on to Kessler

All good points. My hope is that we get hot going into the SEC and NCAA tourney. We are plenty good enough to do damage if we can have our guards shoot a better %, limit the TO's, while rebounding better. We've not played well since before the UK game. That normally doesn't last.

Agreed but it also is important to remember we haven't been anything close to bad either. We are right there. Just need some marginal improvements and anything is possible

Wonder why Bruce rarely calls a time out? Other than the to's the lack of a strategic time out really irks me.
