A dude made an interesting post worth sharing here. Apparently he did research on TV ratings since 2013. He looked only at regular season games so that big bowl games wouldn't skew the results. Here's the rankings of teams by the number of games they've had with 5 million viewers:

quote:

1. Alabama- 38
2. Ohio State- 36
3. Michigan- 25
4. Auburn- 21
5. Georgia- 19
5. Notre Dame- 19
7. LSU- 18
8. Florida- 17
9. Florida St.- 15
10. Penn State- 13
11. Texas A&M- 12
12. Oklahoma- 11
12. Michigan St.- 11
14. Clemson- 10
14. Wisconsin- 10

Auburn has had 21 games with 5+ million viewers since '13. Ahead of UGA, LSU and UF.

Bottom line: AU is 4th in TV rankings since '13, yet some want us to believe we should accept perennial 8-4. It makes no sense at all.

Here's the original thread: LINK

Because we consistently play the tough schedule in college football every year

That’s usually the old fart Auburn fans that grew up in the 60s and 70s. The Auburn fans that grew up watching Pat Dye dominate, undefeated seasons by 3 different mediocre coaches, 6 in a row against uat, a NC, etc., we know Auburn should be a top program and not settle for mediocrity.

Right. But OP’s point isn’t lost on me either. A coach like Harsin that outgrew his sandbox in Boise State shouldn’t mind the schedule because big challenge will mean big reward if he is successful. Someone that wants to be elite wants to be on the biggest stage.
It was weird that recruiting was faltering despite our players holding the spotlight in game of the week exposure multiple times a year.. But hopefully that changes now.

I personally have never seen one single person here say this. I’d love to see a quote where any Auburn board member said we should accept 8-4.

I was talking mostly about the talking heads and/or rival fan bases.

Alabama and Auburn’s numbers are inflated because so many of the opposing fan base watch hoping for a loss.

I doubt that many CFB fans get bent over Auburn. lol

I don’t even care if Bama loses anymore either. I did for many years just to end up disappointed.

Auburns numbers are inflated because we play 3 of these teams every year.

Or one could argue th at Auburn helps boots Georgia and LSU #s since we are higher than them. We are getting games that are not just those 3

It’s helpful that we’ve been decent enough most years years heading into amen corner against UGA and Bama. That obviously will draw eyeballs from outside the loveliest village. Interested to see how/if that changes now with the schedule reworked.

But for now, as Janga said, this puts Auburn in an unique position of always playing 3 of the biggest games in CFB, season by season, paving the opportunity to always be on the sport’s largest of stages. Recruits talk about that frequently — especially the kids we’re talking to from the west coast.

Not sure this connects with me to the 8-4 thing but it’s a big stage nonetheless

I think because of our ups and downs, we’ve become a polarizing watch to many outside of the southeast. It’s almost like “What’s Auburn going to do this week?”.
