Looks like Alabama has hired Kevin Steele. Any thoughts?

My thoughts:

My uat buddy was so happy to get rid of a coordinator that had a top 15 defense.

I think he’ll do fine there… prob better than goulding. Steeles resume is better now then when we hired him bc of what he did here…. And saban clearly thinks highly of him (Sabans hired Steele 3 times).

Steeles not the kinda guy to overcome mediocre talent… but bama doesn’t have that problem.

I am sure that the Alabama football program has enough money to buy a snakebite kit.

Is that why Saban went after 4 or 5 other candidates before he called Steele?

He did an incredible job at AU. Not sure why he’s viewed as a joke nationally after that run

I don’t think he was close to their top pick, but he clearly had a ton of success here. On the flip side, Auburn is the only place he had what I would consider to be a very good defense in his past several stops.

True. I guess the key for him is elite talent on the DL and physical corners

I think it just feels like a loss for bama when they whiff on guys that are the best DCs in CFB

Yeah and just the age aspect of it is weird. This could very well be Steele's last gig and for so long Bama coordinator spots have been launching pads for careers

I think it’s a testament to just how hard it is to hire assistants now… everybody has money to throw around… makes poaching guys harder.

I think we got really lucky with the Montgomery hire.

Jville is not laughing at Steele. He’s laughing at the fact they complained about Golding and he had a top 15 D, and Steele is a top 20-30 type of coach.

Now, he will have a lot of talent to play with and can do better. We will see.

to me Bama fans are melting because they got an Auburn retread and a coach they have fired twice in the past.

Exactly. Steele is solid, but I think he’s going to be a step down from what they already had.

Might be right. I always thought Golding was getting a lot of undue criticism. I understand their standards are laughably high at this point but still..

I enjoy the Bammer melt

They're at the denial stage hoping Pruitt is an analyst or Steele is a stopgap hire

So funny.

I would think Steele is definitely a short term hire. Not sure if he’s a stopgap for Pruitt but it definitely feels like he is only going to be there until Saban can get someone he really wants.

TBH, it feels that way - but I can also see this hire as a last ride for Saban, at least I hope

Steele's defense at Miami was dogshit. Middle Tenn State and Duke ran circles around his defense so that's a big concern

Either way, we're laughing and they're screaming and that's always good

This is obviously their last ride. The are like 140 years old combined.
