quote:To be fair, JC had 11 starts over two seasons prior to 2003. His stats for his first two years at AU:
Jason Campbell 2003:
293 atts, 61.8% completion, 2267 yards, 10 TD, 8 INT
291 atts, 62.9% completion, 2332 yards, 15 TD, 9 INT
Career numbers prior to his "breakout" in 2004:
584 atts, 62.3% completion, 4599 yards, 25 TD, 17 INT
Then 2004 alone:
277 atts, 69.6% completion, 2700 yards, 20 TD, 7 INT
I don't think JJ is capable of matching even the 'sucky' numbers Campbell put in his first three seasons, much less attaining his '04 stats.
Hey Duncan, if you get to play 18 holes with JC, be sure to congratulate him on his NFL career and thank him for representing AU with class.

Will do! He was one of my favorite QBs for sure! Always a class act!

I could definitely see him putting up pretty 2004 numbers + more TDs. We throw enough screen passes for comp % and we throw down field a ton so TDs will be there. Not unreasonable for a 12game starter to get ~200yds, 1.5 TD 1INT /game over a season

He was splitting time with Cobb those first two years though. He was never the clear cut #1 guy. JJ started what, 3 games before 2015? And he looked like a future 1st rounder until he was THE guy. It's a much more comfortable being the back up or 1 of 2 because you have room to mess up. It's a whole different level of pressure when you're THE guy and some guys don't handle that well at first.

quote:Actually he was the #1 coming into 2001 as a RFr, Cobb was signed out of JUCO as an insurance policy. JC played pretty well his first two games, stumbled against Dwight Freeney and Syracuse on the road, played lights out against Vandy before struggling against MSU. When he played a lousy first half against UF the following Saturday Tubs pulled him and put in Cobb for a spark - the result was one of the most electrifying wins in Jordan-Hare history, and Cobb became the #1 guy then. But Cobb was never a threat to JC's starting status prior to that, it was a lot more like what happened with JJ and Sean White last year. In '02 it was more of a battle, but Tubs stuck with Cobb until the season seemed on the verge of falling apart against UF and Tubs threw JC into the Swamp, only to see him take over as #1 for good the rest of the way.

So 2003 was hardly JC's first shot at being 'THE guy'. His and JJ's experience were quite dissimilar.
While we're on the subject, it's not really fair to compare Todd's 2008 campaign to JJ last year either. Todd wasn't even named the starter until 3 games in, and by game 6 his OC/QB coach was sent packing, so he barely got a chance to prove whether or not he was capable.

Old Scott Loeffler trick he taught Brady. We kept it in our back pocket

Past my bastard child's bedtime, maybe. Wherever he/she may be....
Children born in 2001 are getting their learners permit this year. Some of them may even be on Malzahn's recruiting already. Let that sink in, old man.

Anymore updates on Prince. The guy has so many physical attributes. If he can get up to game speed, I will be so excited!
