I don't have anything against young, up-and-coming coaches. We do have to acknowledge though that hiring someone like Zac or C-Will carries some level of risk due to their inexperience compared to a guy like McClendon or Wyatt. When your in-state rival is looking to hire a former (and failed, to be fair) NFL HC as a coordinator and you're surrounded by programs that are having more success than you, I don't think it's unreasonable to have some concern about riding into battle with coaches that have little more than G5 experience. Doesn't mean they won't or can't succeed.

Alabama is in a very unique situation because they are on an unprecedented run of dominance that allows them to use that as a selling point to bring in completely over-qualified coaches on short term basis as a "stopover" to reboot their careers back on track. We are not in that position, and neither is anyone else really. Do you know what one reason Bill O'Brien went there is? Nick Saban is a million years old and could retire at any time within the next few years. Don't think for one second that Bill O'Brien isn't looking at that as a potential opportunity to impress for ~2-3 years and potentially shoehorn himself in as the next HC at Alabama. Someone has to succeed Saban and that program right now is firing on all cylinders.
Every other school should be looking to hire a diverse staff of guys with experience, guys with NFL ties, guys who are recruiters, guys who are "developers", and young guys who are showing extreme promise.
If anyone wants another example, look at Dan Lanning - Georgia's DC who Sark just tried to hire away. Another young guy who had a non-P5 resume prior to coming to Georgia. Those two guys - Lanning and Schumann - are basically running Georgia's recruiting strength, despite having no track record prior to being placed in their roles.
Even a guy like Kodi Burns wasn't an inherently bad hire. The issue there is that we were bringing in a WR coach who's only experience was playing in Malzahn's comical passing offense, and we were still running Malzahn's limited passing offense. So he was actually stunted and had nothing to offer, not that Malzahn wanted to listen anyway since it was going to be his thing regardless. We see Kodi Burns as a joke hire now, but had he been brought in as a young "upstart" coach under an actually functioning offensive mind, its very possible that he could have been seen as a "top WR coach" right now. His position under Malzahn stunted him, which is why it's vital for him to go to a school like UCF now to actually learn something.

AUBURN, Ala. – Cornelius Williams, who has spent the previous six years coaching wide receivers at Troy, has been named wide receivers coach at Auburn, head coach Bryn Harsin announced Saturday. Williams, who won four Sun Belt championships and helped lead Troy to three bowl games as a player, was also the passing game coordinator at his alma mater the last two seasons.
"Cornelius is a great fit for the staff we are assembling," Harsin said. "He's a strong teacher of the game on the field and has been developing recruiting ties in Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi during his time at Troy. As a Birmingham native, and his state of Alabama roots, he understands what Auburn football is all about and the type of player and high character individuals we want bring in and develop. I'm excited to see his energy and passion for the game guide our wide receiver room."
During his time at Troy, Williams' receivers earned 14 All-Sun Belt honors including a pair of first team selections by Emanuel Thompson and most recently Damion Willis and Kaylon Geiger.
This past season, Troy's passing attack was 21st nationally in passing yards per game (290.2) and Geiger was 30th nationally with 752 receiving yards. In 2019, outside receivers Reggie Todd and Khalil McClain combined for 83 receptions, 12 touchdowns and 1228 yards. As a unit, the receivers topped the 100-yard mark 11 different times to shatter the Troy school record that previously stood at seven games.
"I'm very thankful to Coach Harsin for the opportunity to join his staff at Auburn," Williams said. "I'm humbled and very appreciative that he believes in me. I know what kind of culture that Coach Harsin wants to build at Auburn with his thought process, attention to detail and desire to work hard. I've worked with coaches like that in the past and I love that culture and approach. I'm hungry to get to work and continue to grow and develop under his leadership. Growing up in this state, I know Auburn is a special place and I can't wait to be a part of it and get to work."

TWill official too? Here is the football staff list. Not sure if they are just leaving guys here until there is a decision or not. I haven’t been following the page. It has Hardin’s name, but still has the 2020 label.

They aren't removing names until the replacement is announced.

They have been removing coaches as they hire their replacement. Garner came off when they hired Rocker, Burns just came off today, etc.
Exception being Porter, they hired Bedell as TE coach and left him on the list. Maybe because he is ST Coordinator? Idk.

No, because Al Pogue is still there as well and we obviously don't have room for both. They just haven't been removed.

Pretty darn good resume
What’s all the fuss about?

I know Hars is wanting an actual recruiting department. Wonder if TWill and Porter take on a role that that department?

I just can't believe other names like Craig, McClendon, and Moorehead were mentioned then they go out and get Troy's version of Kodi.
Agreed. Very frustrating right now. I thought Harsin was going to get some elite guys, but right now it’s looking very underwhelming. I remember nobody being excited about Chizik, but people started getting excited when he started making some big time hires.

Like Gus but besides him idk.

Most were pumped about Trooper and Luper because of their recruiting prowess.

This is a bad hire because we didn't land a "splash hire" like Bryan McClendon who had never once even been an on-field coach before he was promoted from GA to RB coach at Georgia. As soon as he was promoted to Georgia's staff, he became an "elite coach" in the same way that T-Will went from HS coach to Defensive Analyst at Auburn to elite LB coach at Auburn LMAO.
Or Kirby Smart: Valdosta State to GA at FSU to DB coach at LSU under Saban. What the hell was Saban thinking? He couldn't pluck a proven DB coach off some other SEC rival?
The logic is outstanding.

Tulsa OC? We would be bitching about that today.

Trooper, Luper, Grimes, Rocker, and yes Gus was the hottest OC in the country at that time (don’t tell Lanier).

Trooper Taylor: hired to Tennessee (where he became a "top recruiter") from Tulane.
Curtis Luper: hired to Oklahoma State from New Mexico.
Is the issue that it's bad to be the team that DISCOVERS a young coach? But it's good if some other school discovers them, and then you hire them away?

Probably not removed yet because their contract comes to fruition at the end of the month.
