Ok what positives did you take away the past 4 games?

I get where people are coming from, but it's a long season. We have plenty of time to ebb and flow. Hope Bruce uses tonight as a learning experience.
That guy hit everything even though he was pretty well defended and we definitely did not get a favorable whistle.

One thing is for certain, having this conversation after a conference road win is a whole hell of a lot better than having it after a loss.

I saw myself and kids in that video at the JW!
Great game! Exhausted. Glad we got the W in Austin!

Won on the road against a team who was fighting hard the whole game, playing really well. We'll take it, and hopefully learn from it

CBM was clutch in this game for us. Pettiford was a bit of a liability, but that was his first SEC road game. He'll mature

Why do people get salty about the downvotes? Any symbolism to them? Hurts my feelings era?

I think some can take them personal. I take it in the flow of a conversation.
For instance, If we were at a sportsbar it would be equivalent of a “hey man I disagree, let me tell you why,” or “you’re crazy dude, hear’s what I think.” It’s not really an attack on someone’s character….that is usually done in direct explicit responses (haha).

Ok assuming this has been directed at me, this another poster started earlier. I guess I’m really confused. I honestly don’t care about the downvotes, as you can tell I keep coming back to try and discuss actual basketball. What I was saying is that I don’t understand the concept of downvotes in the first place. If you disagree with me, just say that. I think it’s actually really childish to downvote someone. I’ve disagreed with so many on here about our basketball team, and I’ve told them that, but not once have I ever downvoted someone. That’s your opinion and I don’t take it personally, like I said, I have way more important things in my life to be concerned about than what some message board warrior says about me.

I like how efficient we are for the most part on offense. I like how we have multiple guys who can take the big shot when we need it. I like how we usually start taking control the last 6-7 minutes of the first halves of game and the first 6-7 minutes of the second half. I guess another positive is that we have at least won these games at the end with our free throw shooting as well.

Also Tre Donaldson is a stud
Imagine if Tre had stayed and we rotated him with Pettiford. I think we would be unstoppable. Tre went for 20 last night and good stats.
I wonder how he’s feeling; if he’s having buyers remorse. He could have been our #1 PG

Getting back to the game, I rewatched most of it and it frustrates me even more with what happened last night. Our defensive pressure has been slacking the past 4 games. No way we should have ever let Texas score 55 points in the second half. And again, we let one guy take over and keep them in the game. That’s exactly what killed us time and again last year, where we would allow a guy go off for 24 plus points and keep the other team in the game or outright beat us. I honestly don’t know what Pearl and the staff is coaching and telling the guys how to defend when that happens. I was taught if a guy starts making 3 shots in a row, we would switch and see who can take him, give him different looks and even be more physical with that guy. Worked most of the time. I don’t see that with us. It’s like Pearl and our team continues to believe that the guy who is dominating us is eventually going to cool off, as in we make no adjustments. That’s what was so irritating last night. We were up 14 with 3 minutes left. There literally should have been a plan to not allow Kaluma to get the ball, yet he would get open shots are get the ball at the top of the free throw line and was allowed to dictate how we would defend him, which is a recipe for disaster.
That, along with our second half collapses we are having are becoming a disturbing trend with this team. Our first 2 SEC games should have easily been 20 plus wins against average teams. Our January schedule is actually pretty easy on paper, yet, they are making this way too difficult than it actually is. As I said last night, this style of play is not sustainable for success in the tournament. It would be one thing if this was in the tournament and the mantra is just win and survive. But this is January, against teams we clearly overmatch and out talent yet we are having difficulty putting teams away. It’s like once this team is up 16-18 points or more, we literally just quit and allow the other team to hang around and make it a game when those game should have been blowouts, like this team lacks the killer instinct. That’s a coaching issue. It was the same issue for us last year. We look great for like 30 minutes of the game and look unbeatable and then instead of delivering the knockout punch, we would allow the game to be much closer than it really was because of our lapses and complacency towards the end of games.

Yea having Tre on this team instead of Pegues would be incredible.

Well, no offense to others on here, I hate baseball and despise the football coach we have, so I don’t watch football or care about it anymore until he’s gone. Plus, basketball is my passion and I can discuss more in depth about our strengths and weaknesses than I can with other sports since I’ve been around basketball almost my whole life.

We tried to guard him with Broome, Chaney, CMo, and at times CBM. Dude just went off. He was a secondary scorer coming into the game behind the freshman. We essentially took him out of the game with Denver and CBM. Not sure what Bruce could have done differently.

I honestly believe that Tre made the right decision for himself. He’s a key part to Michigan’s success right now and looks like a great fit for them. And it wasn’t like the staff just got some scrub who they hoped would be good. Pegues was one of the top guards in the portal and dominated the Southern Conference when he was there and part of some big time games at Furman. There was no way of knowing this would happen, but it sometimes happens and it’s been unfortunate for him and us that he hasn’t panned out.

Like I said, when you start to switch and the guy still can’t miss, that’s when you either tell your guys to rough him up and get physical or run a 3-2 or 2-3 zone or even a box and 1 so that it will make him uncomfortable. I was always taught that if we are going to lose, it will be because that team is just much better than us, not because one guy goes off and we allowed him to shoot like that, because that is preventable. It wasn’t like Duke, where they had multiple guys who were threats. Texas literally had one guy we needed to worry about, that Johnson kid who is freshman star for them, and we contained him for the most part. So again, that tells me that I think Pearl and the team have this line of thinking that he will eventually get cold and if he doesn’t, well I hope we can withstand that guy’s dominance, which is risky way to play. It’s why we lost against Yale, allowing that one guy to go off. But we got away with it last night because of how large of the deficit they were in and he didn’t have enough time to bring them all the way back. But yes, if you allow one guy to beat you, then that becomes a coaching adjustment issue.

I love how you always reference how you were "always taught" so and so as if we would just do what you were taught would fix our issues. Well no offense but whoever was teaching you wasn't a tenth of the coach Bruce Pearl is, so maybe it's not always that simple
