Yup. Glad we didn't play them even though it sucks

Wouldn't have been too butt hurt if we played them against Clemson, we made tournament + won a game they couldn't vacate

It does blow that Purifoy will miss the Maui invitational . NCAA just trying to protect Duke

Maui though is going to be interesting, both in terms of competition and potential newsworthy games

Noteworthy Narrative Games

Illinois - After 3 decades, the Illini fanbase still strongly believe Bruce Pearl is the reason they aren't a blueblood. Any 'Bruce Pearl' search on twitter is full of Illini fans hating him

Arizona - A matchup with Zona would dominate the headlines as the FBI invitational

Competition Analysis

Duke- Return some solid role players + add the top 3 overall recruits + some other elite players

Gonzaga- Lose 2 possibly 3 starters, but they should return a lot of talent + some guys ready to step up

SDSU - Lose 3 SRs but they have a lot of young talent returning

Xavier - Lose 4 best players to graduation, may lose head coach Chris Mack

Zona - Losing for sure 4 starters, good chance at 5. They lost their entire recruiting class due to FBI scandal

Iowa St- Lose best player, possibly 2nd best player too but return everyone else from the last place BigXII team

Also, if both Wiley + Purifoy return for next season, I fully expect that Akingbola will redshirt his freshman year

Assuming that we don't have any unexpected departures, we will take no other recruits as we will be at our scholarship limit

1- PG Jared Harper JR
2- PG Davion Mitchell SO
3- SG Bryce Brown SR
4- G Samir Doughty JR
5- SG Mustapha Heron JR
6- SF Danjel Purifoy rJR
7- SF Malik Dunbar JR
8- PF Desean Murray SR
9- PF Chuma Okeke SO
10- C Austin Wiley rSO?
11- C Anfernee McLemore JR
12- C Horace Spencer SR

13- PF/C Babatunde Akingbola ** RS

Scholarship Projection 19-20 + 20-21 (** risk of early departure)

2019 Class Scholarship Availability - 3 + # of early departures

19-20 Scholarship Players

1- SR PG Jared Harper
2- JR PG Davion Mitchell
3- SR G Samir Doughty
4- SR G Mustapha Heron **
5- SR F Danjel Purifoy **
6- JR F Chuma Okeke
7-JR(?) C Austin Wiley **
8- SR C Anfernee McLemore
9-rFR C Babatunde Akinbola

2020 Recruiting Class Scholarship Availability: A lot

20-21 Scholarship Players

1- SR PG Davion Mitchell
2- JR F Chuma Okeke
3- SO C Babatunde Akingbola

4- SR C Austin Wiley **

If Heron is waiting on an NBA grade he will be back if you ask me. He is only a good college player about 30% of the time.. I just don't see it.

If everyone comes back I give us a legitimate shot to make a run for the championship. Crazy talk I know. Our team next year will be heads and shoulders better than this year’s team.

I mean I 100% agree with you, and it's not the craziest thing in the world. We were going to be a projected #1 seed had we beaten USC the Saturday everything went wrong.

There is no doubt that Purifoy and Wiley might be the two most talented players on the team and gives us depth and size we were lacking this year. Toss in Samir and the rotation is crazy. Guys like Spencer and Dunbar might struggle to get minutes.

The obvious big key to that is how well they mesh together and decide to play as a team and not hero ball. That can be very tough when you have a bunch of guys with potential futures in the NBA who are used to being "The Guy." But man I am excited.

Can he/Auburn appeal the decision, or is THIS the appeal?

This should be the original judgment and Auburn can appeal. There is between a 0% and slim chance of the appeal changing the decision

Agreed, especially since he is getting punished for being one of the players who can't jump straight to the NBA

dumb question, but were Purifoy and Wiley able to practice with the team all season, or was that off limits as well?

Yes. They spent most of their time on the scout team along with Samir Doughty. They effectively did everything a redshirt/transfer player sitting out participated in

Austin Wiley temporarily played with the 1st team while it was believed he could get a favorable ruling and play

You mean not being talented enough or is there something else holding him back?

I’m excited to see what we get with Danjel. The eye test didn’t help his case with me, but I understand his stats show a very efficient offensive player. Injury seemed to crush his defensive effort, so I want to see how a healthy Purifoy defends. I think that could be his biggest asset to our team, a lengthy swarmer who buys in on the defensive side. We’re sorely lacking that.
