How does this solve any of the issues we have with coaches invluding GM. This is just renegotiation of his contract and handcuffing him from firing and replacing staff. Will we have a new OC (Freeze) who would change staff? I guess not. This just prolongs the inevitable and will further damage our football program. And no raymond harbert should not be negotiating contracts for AU athletics. Ridiculous!

THANK YOU.

PM knows no more than anyone else.

This should effectively end P. Marshall, Marcello, Josh Moon's trustworthiness (and careers) as "journalists" if this doesn't pan out.

Malzahn has agreed that Auburn will effectively end paying buyouts for assistant coaches, thus forcing Malzahn to pay buyouts himself for any assistant coach that he seeks to dismiss.

This is really dumb. If Gus is willing to reduce his own buyout to stay, then we should not handcuff him on assistants.

Maybe they thought Gus would agree to step down and he dug his heels in wanting to prove that he only cares about turning it around more than money

The thing I don't understand is didn't the new contract give Gus full autonomy on hiring and firing staff related to football? How could they go back on that and say you can't get rid of that guy, etc?

Article Today (Paraphrase)

AU Administration made an offer to Gus which they did not expect him to take.

Gus is on the verge of calling their bluff

Monstrosity of a situation whereby Gus takes a reduced buyout (I am not sure why that is bad) and does not have full control to hire and fire assistants. (IMHO this had to be part of it because we did want Gus to fire Chip and then force Auburn to pay Freeze with a guaranteed contract, say 5 million)

Negotiations continue

PAM believes recruiting will suffer, but is not sure how much, but has zero idea by how much (I believe it will be minimally affected).

PAM says you either fire him or give him everything he wants. (Does anyone really want to give Gus anything he wants, that is just stupid).

He wants a job. I don't think they should give that to him.

I actually agree with Fat Phil on this (well in theory). A HC should be given full control of the program, and if the AD/Admin/Bd of Trustees want to meddle because they dont trust the HC, then you need to go get another HC that you do trust. Its either all in, or all out - so sick of this game of keeping the coach but trying to control everything about him down to his assistants and playbook.
