Per PM not very good odds of Gus retuning if he finishes 5-7

per Phillip Marshall - Shug Jordan and Pat Dye were the only two head coaches in modern time to have a losing season beyond their second year and return. If Gus loses Saturday he likely finishes 5-7 and odd of returning after finishing 5-7. regardless of buyout are not very good

And what is Gus’ motivation to do well? He is filthy rich either way.

Option 1: He gets lucky and hangs on and people don’t think that he is an absolute arse.

Option 2: He loses out and is fired with $30 million in his bank account.

No offense, but I feel like this is something unsuccessful people ask when someone is wealthy

Malzahn probably works 12 hour days or more. He’s not trying to go home and watch football on his couch

I feel the same way.

I don't think Gus motivation/effort to succeed would change if his buyout was $1 or $100mil

That is the exact mentality unsuccessful people have. “Why should be care if he is going to get x”. Well, he got to that point by caring. He just gave 2 mil to the school. He wants to keep doing well and grow it.

That “I’m good” mentality is what holds most people back.

Malzahn’s work ethic isn’t in question. Even that article about his Ten Commandments said that he’d get his assistants and check and then double check the game plan. So tbe work is there. The fruits of his work arent paying off though. He’s got to asjust if he wants to avoid watching football on the couch. The “We’re a two back run, play action team “ mentality has got to go. Look at Jordan Rodger’s tweets. His tendencies are so apparent, that just Chandler Cox being on the field is a significant indicator( 74%) that a run/screen is going to happen. And when he’s off? 85% pass.

He might work 12 hrs but you could put his playbook on the back of a milk carton.

The scope of my reply was about Gus’s motivation to do well. I didn’t suggest that his hard work was paying off.

The point there was that money probably isn’t driving that weirdo. There’s an obsession there that’s beyond the paycheck.

Come on, guys

I get that he has a natural football motivation. If he doesn’t adjust, his motivation isn’t enough, and he is still headed to the couch to watch football... which would be the same result achieved by an unmotivated Gus counting on the bag to be there.

Edit: just saying that having the work ethic is half the battle.
