I disagree with Freeze on this. He needs to go back in there and buy another QB. A lot of the Thorne criticism during the 4 game losing streak was discounted to a QB rotation, but Thorne was absolutely terrible most of the time. He got better as defenses got less intimidating but from Cal to Ole Miss he was trash.

Do you think Cam and that 2010 season was worth $1.5 million?

I really don't think Thorne is that bad by the way they utilized him down the stretch, I think they could have used his skill set a little differently earlier in the year. I believe his numbers on the year would have been a lot better if our receivers could catch a ball. Don't get me wrong he made his fair share of dumb throws but I see potential in him, especially if Hugh takes over play calling.

The main benefit for AU would be to have their name back out there as having blue chips committed. Might help with others.
But yeah, 2026 is two years away and that's an eternity in recruiting.

Matt Rhule said a quality QB in the portal right now is going for $1.5 million

Our pass offense was poor. I’m not defending Thorne but his adjusted completion percentage on the season was 71.5%. You can only scheme open slot guys open so much. I think Hugh and company did a good job of that the last 5-6 games of the season with Burton and Var.

And to add to that with the stud WRs coming in they are going to be true freshman there are going to be plenty of mistakes made.

For sure. It's not like the $500k for Thorne or the $1.5MM reported price for a good transfer QB are coming out of his salary. Let the money people decide where the money goes and get the best available based on that.

He’s going to be a borderline 5* type player.

Depends on growth. He’s an interior guy and very few IOL get 5 stars. He’s most likely a center

Yea. I think he’ll get a similar rating to Deandre Carter. Somewhere between 40 and 125. Unless he blows up to 6’6/6’7.

I think most of it depends on NIL cost for an upgrade for a portal QB. We have greater needs long term than a 1 year QB. Not saying that’s a good or bad thing.
This was my point. Id bet this conversation is being had. "Coach we can get Leonard, however that means we dont have the money for Coleman and Ryan Williams; or, vice versa, you tell me".
And I would say bring home the two wide receivers and we ride with Thorne and Geriner, baby goat and Walker. I say again, great receivers can make a pedestrian QB look very good.
Remember these same boosters started the NIL era having already forked out 150 million on facilities and coaches buyouts, they must really love this program to keep pouring the money in, think about that the next time someone derides them.

So, you are implying that Freeze wants him to be starter or are you implying that he does not want Thorne or Geriner to jump into the portal. Or are you implying something else.
It's this.
Thorne already said he is staying. Remember fellas, he is getting paid now. He has to judge if he thinks he leaves could he get more somewhere else. If he stays and some hot shot does come in....he still gets paid.

Caldwell is saying Freeze is happy with having Thorne and Geriner going into spring and doesn't expect us to get into a bidding war over a qb.

I just came across this. Miami flipped a 5 star from OSU. But I died laughing at his flip graphic.
They literally have bundles of cash in the graphic.

That’s literally one of the reasons for they have that class. But they haven’t learned those kids will portal out after their freshman season
