Well, it was a lame comment by Lanier.
What was lame about it? Are we evaluating players as to what they were years ago or to what they are at present? Michigan St is a total shite show right now and Im sorry but we should not be bidding on their bench players
That is not top talent. If we are doing the grand recruiting that we need to be doing, bench players at a shite program should not be our targets.
You would think we would be learning that

I don’t think that’s the part anyone thinks was lame, dear friend.

If true, that’s sad that y’all are triggered by the other part. Sad indeed.

There will be lots of quality OL hitting the portal this window. Heck, when Vandagriff comes he could bring the entire second string from UGA, that would be a big help.

That said, it sounds like this kid got pissed off when he his NIL got cancelled. He played in all first four games and then benched himself after that once the NIL stopped.
That NIL cutoff may not even have been because he's bad either... reading into it they have an NIL with <100 contributing members!?

Is Vandagriff the kid that played for Raburn County in Georgia. I think they were on ESPN one night. Dude was amazing. Like the next Trevor Lawrence. Wonder why is is not starting for UGA if so. He looked amazing that night.
ETA: not the same kid. Looked it up.

Not familiar with what happened there. Did they promise him something then not deliver it once he was on board?

Me either. So I just googled his name and NIL controversy...this is one of the first articles to come up and his dad makes some wild claims:
LINK
quote:
Schools have been warned by the NCAA that using NIL as a recruiting tool is forbidden.
“Other people are using that as a recruiting tool,” Keith Blackstock said. “I’m not downing anyone. He did like South Carolina a lot. Other schools are offering opportunities for it and giving you examples. South Carolina just doesn’t have those things. It’s nothing against them. Other schools are using that as a recruiting tool, and me, personally, I don’t think that should be done. Nothing is guaranteed. With any kid, you can’t really guarantee them NIL money, but they just give them examples of people who played their position or who was their size, something that can resemble that kid that gives them some intimate idea. That’s some of the other schools whole selling point. It’s not Keyshawn’s selling point, but when you have a coach that he really likes and then they bring that up, it looks good. But the main thing with Keyshawn though is depth chart. He’s more concerned about a depth chart than anything else. Even if you’re offering him two million, if he doesn’t get to play, what is two-million dollars? But because he is who he is, he knows that football isn’t guaranteed.
So he's more about "depth chart" (I take that to mean playing time) yet, he knows that the NFL isn't guaranteed so why not take the money and run? Anything else is icing on the cake, right?
This is the shitty side of NIL. It's shitty, but totally necessary in today's game to be able to compete.

Read a little more on Blackstock. He was the number one interior linemen in Juco. Signs with Michigan State and plays backup left tackle the first four games. Their NIL then decides to re-evaluate all agreements and cut funding (doesnt say all or just a haircut) of several players with Blackstock being one. He then sits down and says we will save my redshirt for the next team. Coach gets fired and they get a 30 day portal to announce a transfer and here we are.
As an aside, boy it would be nice to reevaluate your NIL payouts mid season, but Im not sure you would ever get another kid in the portal

Can I get some clarification on dates:
The first portal window will open on December 4th?
And the early signing period for high school, Juco is December 20th?
So if we had a potential QB who was going into the portal and he was concerned about our OL we would have to snag a couple of good linemen, then the QB, then try and keep or flip High School WRs who were concerned about our QB situation....which would all hinge on the ebb and flow of NIL dollars depending on who was in or out.
I hope Hugh has enlisted some of the fellas from the IT school to run us some algorithms with AI utilizing quantum mathematics to figure that out.

quote:Yep - it sounds like this NIL fund is just one piece of their overall NIL. It signed up a bunch of deals without having the donations in the bank or the donators lined up, and only has ~100 members currently.

The company stopped paying all of its football NIL deals.
Cut all MSU NIL

It wouldn’t be the first amazing QB bowl cut didn’t play. He lucked out that his 12th year senior final put it all together his last few seasons in his late twenties.

Maybe they cut funding because they knew Mel was about to be fired for cause. Might as well stop all NIL on some folks if it won’t bear fruit.

As much as I hate Kirby, I personally don’t think he has picked the wrong starters yet. I don’t know about the situation now but the kid you are talking about won 2 national championships I believe.

Kirby has learned to let the bench play some these days. Vandagriff has played in half a dozen games and even the 3rd string guy, shooter, pistol whatever his name is (I kid its Gunner Stockton) has gotten in a game.
Thats why I have to believe Vandagriff is prime for a transfer. Beck has two years left and Vandagriff is already a red shirt sophomore. Behind him is Gunner who was hand picked by Bobo, and this fall they will sign the first all pro freshman ever (according to the scouts). He will enter his senior spring in another three way QB shootout, or he can come home and start, and he will have some game experience

Fromm over Justin Fields maybe. Hard to argue about what Stetson Bennet did, though
