He is from my home town. And its not a great one. Hopefully, he will be a good one for us. It would be a good story of him getting out of that shite hole and making something of his life.

Pulling for him. He was a stud his senior year

Scrimmage Notes:

Per Malzahn

Duke was not there

The defense dominated

Offense did not score

Carl Lawson was "nearly unblockable"

Defense forced 3 turnovers

From Malzahn's presser happening now:

quote:

Auburn went 90 plays today in scrimmage. No touchdowns from offense, two field goals. Defense forced three turnovers.

More on the Auburn D in scrimmage: Gus Malzahn said it was the most dominant performance by a defense "since I've been a head coach."

quote:

Jason Caldwell ?@ITATJason 3m3 minutes ago
Malzahn said Duke Williams wasn't at the scrimmage today. He backed up his point that he would let us know when things change.

Auburn's Gus Malzahn said defense's Carl Lawson "is about unblockable."

I need a ruling from Laniers...

Is this a valid excuse to start The Melt?

It's always hard for me with these things. If offense scored 5 times then I worry about the defense. Offense gets dominated, I worry about offense. But it sounds like focus of this scrimmage was younger guys so that could play apart as well. The thing I am happy about is hearing Lawson causing mayhem. I think that will be theme all season

Other notes...

quote:

Scrimmage was run-oriented.

Each group had 30 plays today. Jeremy Johnson threw four to five passes.

One fumble today by a running back, who Malzahn will not identify.

Auburn will scrimmage again Saturday.

Malzahn says today's scrimmage was very important for the newcomers. He said he identified some players he believes can help the Tigers, though he again did not tell reporters specific players.
"I'll bet we learn more in this scrimmage than the last three or four practices," Malzahn says.

Not worried about offense? "I think it wasn't encouraging the offense got whipped, but we've got some good offensive" weapons.

How different is defense today compared to start of spring? "They've done some good things up until this point. "Until you put the football down," that's when everything becomes clear. "It was real football today and the defense did good today."

Returners went live today. Jason Smith, Marcus Davis, Javaris Davis and Gray King.

QB Sean White is "probably solid." "Not a whole lot negative in the scrimmage." He adds he's in "a good spot. I'm not ready to say anything other than he's in a good spot."

quote:

Ricardo Louis on Jeremy Johnson: "He definitely is (as good as everyone is saying." Says he makes throws he has never seen a QB make
quote:

Ricardo Louis said today was probably the best defense he's seen since he's been at Auburn
quote:

Jeremy Johnson on RBs: "They all had a couple big runs." Lawyer Tillman had the lone fumble by an RB.
quote:

Jeremy Johnson: Ricardo "is going to be a big factor in the offense" -- not just deep plays, but as a possession receiver.

Jeremy Johnson on Duke out: "That's not my responsibility. I leave that to him and coach." Adds he feels good about other WRs.

JJ has spoken. In all honesty seems like even JJ is tired of dealing with Duke

I think we should go with Fap and do it with both hands over this

If they cant score, they cant beat us. Champ doing work

The offense will be fine. It will come around. Lots of new pieces that have to work together. Remember, we are only bringing back 4 starters from last year and most of those are on the line..

JJ will do work. WE will get Duke back and that will ignite them.... It will happen,

I love that the defense is getting it together. Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

I'm concerned about two things.

1. Offensive line coming together. Frankly they weren't good last year. Slightly above average as a run unit, bad in pass protection.

2. Duke. We need him. Unfortunately.
