As far as replacing T-Rob, I wonder if Jason Jones from Ole Miss will get a look. Coached with Allen there and with Gus at Tulsa.

Because regardless of how many numbers you post, Scott LOLfer was a terrible hire. So was Ellis Johnson. Let's just go with Allen was our best option, ATM, and next season is critical to Gus' future. He is not a homerun hire, and lacks experiance going against the best offensive coaches in college football, which he will face at AU.

Well we've gone the big name route when it comes to defensive coordinators since Ted Roof so maybe breaking the cycle by hiring Allen will finally produce results.
Allen will also be the first DC that AU has hired since Paul Rhoads in '08 that wasn't a failed HC.

Ted Roof: 6-45 at Duke
Ellis Johnson: 12-34 at The Citadel and Southern Miss
Brian VanGorder: 3-8 at GA Southern
Will Muschamp: 28-21 at Florida

I heard he hunts with Jacobs...he's a good ol' boy and he was Dye's first choice.

He's not the DC AU wants, but the DC AU needs.

Seriously though, I think this is an extremely solid hire for multiple reasons: 1) Appears he is very well respected and liked among coaches/fans of schools where he has been; (2) not a threat to leave after one season (not including an entire coaching overhaul scenario); (3) Wont cost us a lot of money even if we pay a premium for him.

Fair points. I am just tired of the pumpers telling me how well we are progressing, and yet we never see any on field results. It is time to shut our mouth, and produce.

We're all assuming he'll be here for years but would he bolt for a HC position after a year or 2? He's been an assistant for a loooong time

Not sure. But I am sure PAM will report Justin Garrett had another fantastic practice.

Right!? I mean what's up with using numbers to back up an argument when you can arbitrarily like or hate something for no reason at all with half the effort!

You can paint almost any picture you want with stats.

People say stats don't lie but the people using them do.

I agree Stattiger is a homer.

No doubt Gus worked his Hugh Freeze connection here though.

It is sad that Freeze is Gus'only connection.

How did Gus get Ellis? How did he get Boom? Those have to do with Freeze connections? What other options do we have at DC right now? Let's hear them.

Well it tends to happen when you only have a decade of experience in college coaching. So it's most likely true that Freeze is Gus's only connection. But you're here to be contrary to anyone and anything so I wouldn't expect you to agree.

I wonder what is taking so long? Did this guy go back to Tampa and have to think about it? Is he working on getting someone to come with him?
