Why are Auburn fans obsessed with these incestuous hire? This is the kind of thinking that keep Jacobs employed and the Good Ole Boy network in power.

This! It's like Auburn fans have been brain washed by the AD, and I don't get it. I'm so sick of it, I'm actually developing a bias that favors non-Auburn related coaches in hope that we can get out of this rut. We need to look at every possible candidate, and whether he has any ties to Auburn shouldn't matter.

Me too.

Agree. That is what I miss most about Tuberville.

This is the exact reason I want Dave Aranda and not Charles Kelly or anyone previously associated with Auburn.

I'm sick of that line of thinking

Yes. Al Borges, Paul Rhoads, and Tony Franklin are examples of unbiased hiring. TT didn't have a limited scope when seeking new coaches. I know, Franklin didn't work out, but his success after Auburn has shown it was more of a problem with us than him.

Except he's an Auburn alum and was a GA or assistant of some sort here

Being an AU alum doesn't make you bad. It is when the AD shows favoritism towards AU alum that is fricking annoying

Like Gustav when Chiz hired him, right?

Except Tubs had his own GOB network he brought with him.

ETA: Don't get me wrong, I'm opposed to the whole "AUFamily" mentality myself when it comes to hiring coaches - I would strongly prefer we hire the best possible candidate for the job regardless of whether or not he has ties to AU.

And this time last year I thought Boom fit that description...the scenario that we would underacheive so badly and he still get an HC gig wasn't on my radar.

Fans bring up coaches with Auburn ties because those are the coaches the average fan knows.

There are tons of DCs out there, but I know of Paul Rhodes so he may be someone I may mention as a possible hire I would not mind.

This may be the least excited I've been during a coaching search in a long time.

here's one I don't know if he has been mentioned yet but because he would be great at the job and an awesome recruiter probably won't be considered, Mike London, currently unemployed, I believe. Defensive background and DC experience and recruits like CRAZY also has NFL experience.

you mean the ex UVA coach? seriously what is everyones obsession with bringing in ex head coaches for assistants? not just this board but several Auburn boards have this train of thought that bringing in an ex hc that was recently terminated will somehow make us world beaters again

Yep, because UNC bringing in Chizik was a horrible move....Usually ex head coaches were once great assistants. Wouldn't it makes since to bring in ex head coaches as an assistant? They got that head coaching job because of how good of an assistant they were.

He did bring those core guys with him (Gran, Dunn, the WR coach (forgot his name), but they weren't Pat Dye, Jay Jacobs guys either. And his replacement hires were a bit outside the box too (Chizik, Rhoads, Muschamp, Borges, Franklin). Tubs never wanted a coordinator that overshadowed him and I get that.

Greg Knox. Awful coach, even worse recruiter. But he has been the RB coach at Miss St since Merlin arrived.

I'm just sick of "Auburn Man" being a required qualification. I'd hire Jeremy Pruitt for DC if it meant we'd win.

We don't have the luxury of getting good guys that win. If I had to choose, I'd take the a-hole before the loser

Dont care one way or another about Rocker. Spikes doesnt need to break into coaching at our level. Greene on the other hand has a super bowl ring for coaching linebackers for the packers and is currently coaching high school football in Florida because he wanted to step back for a while.
