After Chizik left, there are no insiders. PM is well connected to Auburn folks and he's among a handful of people that may know the most but none of them have a very clear picture. That's a big reason why our beat writers at Auburn are practically a revolving door.

Inside information has basically plummeted in the Gus era.

You have MM who keeps good relationships but basically just drops a couple of hints and then waits for the school to confirm it publicly, JGT/Matthews who post every half plausible rumor and hope it sticks, and PM who gives us yesterday's consensus rumors today.

How the hell does PM even have his frickin' job? His tagline for every thing is "Will it happen? Maybe, maybe not." I cringe hearing him interviews - I know hes not going to provide anything of substance and I'm just afraid I'm gonna hear a heart attack on the radio.

It's been said a million times. It's not what you know, but who you know.

I'm gonna start using that at work. Will we save $500k on this new solution from this supplier? Maybe, maybe not. Procurement is a funny game.

I see it the opposite. He almost always paints a realistic (probably the reason people don't like him) picture of how things are shaking out. He was 100% correct on DC a few years ago despite all the FSU nuts saying it was dead. He was dead on last year with Champ and then again with T-rob when Florida was saying he wasn't leaving.

He was the most accurate in the Champ to USCe drama and was most accurate in the T-rob part of it again. He also said Kelly wasn't dead after FSU reported he was staying. He has been pretty clear this time as well that Lance will get the job if things don't work out with a few big names. I take that to mean Lance is likely to get the job, assuming Kelly does what is logical. Personally, I hope he follows his heart.

Heck, you an go back to 2012 when the witch hunt started for Chiz and he kept saying he wasn't in danger. Everyone said PM was crazy, but the truth was he wasn't in danger until Texas A&M cleaned his clock and our emotionally zealous leaders changed their tune. Then PM changed his as well.

FWIW nearly every AU source now, including PM, thinks there'a a better chance CK comes to AU than doesn't.

I've got some good friends that run a business in Alabama and have gotten to know some boosters and they're telling me that Kelly could be named as early as today. Supposedly they are negotiating the contract now.

We'll see...

If CK happens, then Muschamp's hiring might have been the best thing in the end. Without him leaving, CK wouldn't have probably been an option. When it's all said and done, I think CK might be as good or better than Champ (for one, he is loyal to AU).

The downside of CK is he is good friends with Garner (they played together), so Garner likely stays. (I, personally, think Garner has been a scapegoat).

If you think Garner is just a scapegoat then why do you think it's a downside that it means Garner will stay?

I was all about moving on from RG at the beginning of the season. But toward the end we could actually see some development on the DL. Plus, according to recruits, it seems like he is single-handedly holding our defensive class together right now.

I can't hate him right now

Downside for all of the people who mindlessly blame Garner for all of AU's problems. It's not a downside for me, personally.

Much of the nega-Garner was simply a case of some Aubs imitating our leg-humping friends in Athens, IMO.

Everybody likes a good scapegoat now, and then!

Supposedly Dye and Bo have been pretty involved the last few days with CK.

We shall have none of this!

Can anyone with more expertise than me describe CK's defensive philosophy?

Not sure he has more expertise than you but here is a Profile from JG the other day
quote:

Kelly is known as a hard-working, calm, cerebral guy who understands the game from all angles. He spent time as Jacksonville State's offensive coordinator earlier in his career, which is an interesting twist.

He's willing to get after players, but Kelly believes the defensive leader should remain calm under pressure for fear of taking players off task with histrionics.

In that way, he's much different than Muschamp.

The two men are similar in some ways, however. Kelly uses a "buck" (end/linebacker hybrid) to change looks fairly often. He also tends to trust his defensive backs in man coverage more than most coordinators, which gives him more leeway in allocating other assets toward pass rush or gap control. Kelly spent most of his career coaching secondaries, so he knows how to scout and hone good man defenders.

Florida State's defense struggled in 2014, falling well short of the marks Pruitt achieved a year earlier, but things turned around this fall. FSU trimmed 70 yards and 10 points off its per-game averages and fielded one of the nation's most consistent defenses.

The Seminoles' defense never conceded more than 23 points in any game this year.

MOST APPEALING TRAITS: Tenacious strategist, workaholic reputation, FSU's defense improved dramatically this season, Auburn background

FSUs defensive struggles in 2014 give me some pause on Kelly... maybe some of that was due to it being his first time calling a defense at that level, and he wouldn't experience some of that if he came here... who knows.

Regardless, he had a ton of talent to work with last year and they were flat bad at times ... Don't get me wrong, I'd take him in a heartbeat... Just a concern
