This, otherwise I don't want. Morals are a nice quality for a HC to have, but not necessary in my mind. I mean we still have Pat Dye around our program so we can't really throw the morals card out there.

so that's a yes?

Folks it ain't gonna happen. If a change is made Auburn will hire someone that will/can clean up Auburn's image regarding the off-the -field issues, etc. Petrino is a great coach but he would be a PR nightmare for the university if they hired him. JMO.

Given the size of the Auburn alum base in Atlanta, I'm gonna say the BMFP talk ain't gonna happen.

Yes, I would take him, but I'd also take some others too.

I was strongly against it as recently as yesterday, but I've heard enough convincing arguments to say give him a shot if there's enough evidence he'll at least try to be a halfway decent person.

Auburn deserves a lot better than Bobby Petrino.

Ah, the ole "holier than thou" card.

Throw out another coach -- a realitic candidate -- that could in here and immediately challenge Saban on a yearly basis. Charlie Strong? Butch Davis? Dana Holgorsen? Gary Patterson?

I actually want Gary Patterson, but face it, Petrino's got just as good a shot as anybody else and maybe the best shot.

Yes, I'd probably be accepting of that at this point in time. But man, I'd have a hard time rooting for for him.

The main issue with Petrino is he would split the fanbase, as you can see in this thread. So he better win fast if got hired.

Exactly my worry as well.

Anyway, I think I am going to have to come off the fence as a yes vote for purposes of this poll. I've thought about it more, primarily looking at other candidates and I think Petrino has the least questions about his ability to compete and win in the SEC of any candidates being discussed. And at the end of the day you hire a coach to win football games. If he is a "role model" type as well, that is an added bonus, not a prerequisite for the job.
