Hoke put an update out saying Freeze may not wait for the Texans to lose and could go ahead and move on to the next candidate which he now believes to be Durkin.

It is possible. We also could have just done that anyways. I think it is pretty obvious we are waiting on Kiffin. If they win again, maybe we start entertaining other options a little more. I'm sure there is a point where we just need to make a hire, but I don't see us just abandoning our first choice over a week or two.

I frankly think it is already done just not "technically" done, everything else is just beat writer scuttlebutt.

Arnett or kiffin would be worth waiting for. Durkin may not be well accepted by players or fans

I would love Arnett, but don’t think he runs the type of defense Freeze really wants.
I’m honestly shocked he is still unemployed. He may not have been a great HC but the man was a damn good coordinator.

I think Durkin is a good coach and a good recruiter, the hang up with him is does he help the culture piece Freeze is so concerned with? You just let go of a DC because he apparently was a a-hole, do you replace him with a guy with the same reputation?

Durkin is actually pretty well respected and well liked. What happened at Maryland was not his fault. Here’s a pretty genuine defense of him by Muschamp:

While you might not can pin that kid’s death squarely on Durkin, you can blame him for the toxic culture he had in his program and that is what is most concerning.
