Mods delete of course if this isn't needed.

Figured since the Media Days thread has predictably gone off the rails I'd make a new one for non-Covid Media Days discussions.

Harsin talked culture, Bo talked about chopping off the heads of elephants, and Pappoe talked about how good our young LBs are.

Frankly I don't see how we got so many All-SEC selections and are still picked to finish 5th in the rest (Anders was totally disrespected). Surely we surprise some people, right?

Too many 5*’s. Need more 3*’s to be coached into 5*’s if we want to finish 4th

I dont now if anyone has been paying attention lately but the SEC, is doing pretty well. Especially all of our "rivals" as you guys like to refer to them..

I've only watched Harsin thus far. If I were interviewing him I'd be impressed. He articulates a plan and process. Also has a track record of success.

Can his staff get good enough players?

I know it's difficult to measure the effect of intangibles, but from watching interviews and reading coverage it seems like Harsin is just a very confident guy, and it sounds like that is rubbing off on the players. Could all just be talk, of course, but I wonder how that compares to the Malzahn era. I can say as a fan I haven't had a ton of confidence watching games against non-cupcake teams the past few years.

He's almost too serious.

But he confident in his speeches and focused when answering media questions.

The only thing i would like him to change up is tell a few more funny stories and not answer each media question with a long winded answer. He didn't get to many media questions bc his time was up.

But I do like his suit coordination with the handkerchief and the tie. Good Auburn colors in there.
I wonder if his wife dresses him? :)

That guy can talk. He always answers the question but he takes you for a ride before you get there

I think I agree. Especially as a new coach, a little levity will do him favors later. Like the taxes comment when he as talking about NIL. It showed he had a sense of humor and gave a little bit more than the intense, serious coach.

Ha. I've skied on the GSL. I could float for ours in that salt.

Since his first press conference, I've noticed he definitely is long-winded.

I laughed at his reaction when he had answered I think only 2-3 media questions, as the moderator jumped in to let him know his time limit was up. He seemed surprised. And he didn't get to answer enough questions bc of his long answers.

He started one of his answers with "Let's go back to 2007"

The media guys were complaining about him filibustering but I'm not convinced it's actually intentional. Just seems so detailed that the wants to give the entire story.

True but again he could be using it to his advantage and liked his answers. I like how he handled the media days.

Did some in the media actually complain about his long answers that ended up limiting the number of questions?

If you watch any of Harsin's interviews that's just him. He tends to put TMI into his answers.

But I take that instead of the paranoid answers and 'coach speak' Gus put out there most of the time.

That and, at least at media days, he preemptively answered the two most common questions on the week in his opening statement.

He’ll settle in and take more questions down the road. Saban was famous, in the beginning, for addressing essentially any interesting topic and making it difficult for reporters to probe further on them. Harsin is new to the SEC but he’s had 7 years or whatever of taking questions at pressers. He knows what he’s doing here.

Another interesting nugget from Pappoe was that he said the defense they’re practicing is similar to what Steele was doing. And honestly, that’s kinda comforting considering that was working well for us. He said they’ve added 3 down fronts but it sounded like we’ll see a lot of 4-down/Okie as we transition with personnel. And I know Tony Fair and Tyrone Truesdell aren’t the most gifted DTs but I think Auburn is the only team in the SEC with 5th year guys starting in the middle

Still. It’s just disrespectful at this point. Arkansas and Ole Miss have gotten better but they aren’t on our level and people think we will lose to them. Haha laughable IMO. The new offense in my opinion will change Auburn. So many teams are use to the 3 play Gus Auburn team but not anymore.
