Welcome to the Future

Another poster created a thread in regards to this, and stated…
quote:

Purchased the $50/month membership for AU NIL

We could pay all 85 football scholarship players $50,000/year

It’s gonna happen soon folks

Now, specifically for basketball, this could potentially end the chances of us losing an all world basketball recruit (Scoot Henderson) to NBA G-League…MAYBE.

For the people that pay, the money can be sent wherever. Whatever sport, whatever player.

Should all be up and running within the next month.

This will be great for any AU student athlete. But I’m not naïve so I realize that our program will still likely pale in comparison to universities with greater financial backing and commitment to athletics.

Again, happy for the athletes. But not confident in AU’s ability to compete in this space.

I'm glad to see we are at least attempting to improve our NIL program. But I feel like Rig. I'm not sure our donors can compete with what Bama Texas are already bringing.

Hopefully the right boosters will quit throwing money at buying coaches just because they can, and throw money at the players that coach needs to succeed. That's probably too logical for them though. Gus' buyout for example could have paid 85 scholarship players 62k per year for 4 years, now if you added this....

That's going be like bringing a cup of water to a forest fire.

It autocorrected to the right spelling and I agree with you that I’m glad someone is doing something.

Personally, I don’t like it. I also hate the transfer portal.

Yea, it's wild. Not even the same sport anymore really. Been trending this way for a while but now it's full on just a bunch of hired guns with no pretense of being anything else.

Transferring to higher NIL money seems exactly like free agency in the NFL

People were just freaking out about a plan for the Texas OL to get the same amount. Every single football player getting $50k+ would be huge.

Yeah, but wait for USC to offer each player $1 million because there's a gigantic sponsorship from Supercorp Industries from LA.

This is going to hurt the smaller schools with smaller alumni bases in smaller markets. $50k is great today, but tomorrow, it's peanuts.

I could absolutely end up being incorrect about this, but I don’t see it getting to this level. That would be $85 mill/year with the majority of that going to players who do not contribute. We know individual players are at that level and their payouts will likely continue to rise, but I just don’t see a business making the conscious decision that they’re going to give the backup kicker or fourth string DT a million dollars. But that could just be me being naïve.

What the amount gets to is irrelevant, the fact is the bigger market, bigger donor teams are going to gain an increasingly significant advantage over the rest.

Actually, I think a lot of people dont realize how NOT huge that is and just how fricked up things are about to get

This may be one of the worst ideas in all the bad ideas college football has had.

In a few years, the amount of bitching, complaining, comparing and quitting from the guys playing in college athletics will be unreal.

We have about one or two more years to enjoy it. I think everyone should

Yep. It's been a slow burn up to this point, but this will be the sprint to the finish of college football.
