Could this season pay off next season?

I dont think it will matter. I will put LSU and UGA as a L until we show we can hold our own in those games.

When you have good systems in place you just reload and replace. For example, I guarantee whoever is at qb at Oklahoma next year will be in the Heisman race. Same for Alabama.

Our rivals will beat Sweater Vest Shula with Barney the fat purple dinosaur at QB.

Sweater Vest Shula is 0-10 in Baton Rogue, Athens, and Tuscaloosa. LSU is the only home game of those 3 next year and Sweater Vest Shula is winless vs Coach O so there is 3 losses already.

Gus won't help us

That said, if Nix masters whatever rinky dink shite Gus wants to do, and I think that's possible, I could see a big offensive turnaround on that front. Now RB health, the O line, WR production, I have no idea what'll happen there. But for the Gus/Bo dynamic I think it could improve, mostly dependent on Bo, though.

Gus sure isn't going to change his approach to help Bo/the offense. I think in some ways Gus still has a good offensive mind. The problem is that he's got this vision for how the game should play out and he wants a flawed, new QB to run it behind a flawed OL against great defenses. There is zero margin for error.

I think it's completely true that there are games where if Bo executes 3-4 passes better and a WR doesn't drop the ball, we win by 15 or we win a game we lost. But wins and losses and huge swings shouldn't be dependent on precision execution of stupid and complicated playcalling, especially when you know the weaknesses that will keep that execution from occurring.
