All of these writers, bloggers, podcasters, etc. are throwing gasoline on their own fire for clicks, plays, and downloads.
Everyone makes money during an Auburn coaching search, from opposing head coaches to people relying on ad revenue from websites.
Chicken is adding a 3 pool to his mansion as we speak just from revenues since Sunday.

cannot understand why Auburn (and fans) aren’t pushing Brent Venables the most.
There have been a bunch of jobs come open in the past 3 or 4 years that are at or above the level of the Auburn job. His name was linked to several of them and he is still at Clemson.
Some have hinted at some sort of rumor (idk what it pertains to) that diminished his chance at a HC job at a big name school. Others have said he is content where he is at Clemson. Some people say he isn't interested in a HC gig. Who knows? But I do know he has been linked to many job openings in the past and there is something there as to why he is still working for Dabo.

Was just told by 2 very good sources who have intimate knowledge of the Auburn coaching search that the last 24 hours, & #stopsteele campaign, has blown up a 3-yr plan to undermine Gus Malzahn & get Kevin Steele the job. The man they say is behind it: former trustee Bobby Lowder
I don’t want Gus back but I do feel bad for him. I can’t believe Auburn plotted for three year to get Steele. Not a rockstar coach. Steele...

I put nothing past our PTB, but the idea we gave Gus a 49 million dollar deal and immediately started trying to undermine him is insane. I'm pretty skeptical and highly suspicious but that seems like a bit much. Isn't the source the same guy who said we had Stoops locked down one time?

I hate it for Steele. I definitely don't want him as our HC but they threw out his name and made auburn fans turn on him for no reason. He was a good DC for us but definitely doesn't deserve the HCing job or the hate from fans he is getting.

Yeah, he's gone. No chance any new staff keeps him on now.

Well. His defense want that great and he doesn’t deserve the job. More than likely he was forward in quests to HC as well. I don’t feel bad for him.
He is tainted.

Has it been zeroed in yet on which BOT members suggested him?

Auburn ranked 8, 12, 15, 23, 38, in opponent's PPG in his 5 years here. Those are great numbers save for this year. The steady decline could be attributed to a number of things but I like to think the biggest one is the defense getting physically and mentally beaten down year after year because our shitty offense can't stay on the field.
Anyway how quickly we forget where we were with Roof and Ellis. Even Muschamp's year was disappointing.

His defense was pretty solid till the last year or so. I will take that defense anyday
And lets be careful about talking shite on him. Remember where all this info is coming from

I say just chuck everyone into the sun and start over.

No. Steele looked like the decent chick sitting by fat chick by working with Malzahn and benefited from it. That was it . He had two first round draft picks on defense (possibly 3) and was still a dud to end our special year..

Yep. There have been many games where our D has carried us. There have been more where our O has kept the D on the field far too much.
I hope the next HC keeps Steele. I just hope Steele isn't the HC.

If I buy into any of the rumors, which I don’t, seems Auburn fans/media hacks prefer an offensive minded coach. Which is strange, because before Malzahn, that was never the case.
The more I think about it, I really do hope they give Napier a good close look. There’s a lot to like there. His ability to develop/coach up players is exactly what this program needs right now.
