The Scout site at South Carolina is reporting (soon will read "was reporting") that Will Muschamp had agreed to terms with the Gamecocks.
That is inaccurate information.
I'm told Will has spoken with USC and has a job there if he wants it. However, as I have said many times, Will is in no hurry to make a decision. I believe this "negotiation" or "search" will go into next week, possibly to the end of next week. Will has spoken with some NFL teams and there are a few other situations brewing.
Josh Kendall from the newspaper in Columbia, S.C., just tweeted this:
Steve Spurrier: "No, I haven't hired Will. ... I haven't really talked to anybody about additions (to staff)."

I hope not. If we hire Muschamp, he could have a huge year next year.

Like rubbing elbows with the ruling elite everyday is a pitfall.

This is like the coaching search a few years ago when everyone and their brother knew a friend who's tight with X,Y, or Z.

It is, but it is also brilliant. Spurrier is old as hell.
Spurrier is 69.
Bobby Bowden coached until he was 80.
Joe Paterno coached until they kicked his arse out at age 85.
IMO Steve Spurrier has given *no* indication over the years that he's ready to put down his whistle.
Everybody thought Mack Brown was ready to lay it down back when WM was HCIW out at Texas. But he hung on... and on... and on... and on.
I'll believe Spurrier is ready to hang it up when TOBC comes out and says when.

Apparently Spurrier has mentioned retiring in 2-3 years, per Gamecock fans. They are also pissed about it because the recruiting class is taking note and people are starting to look elsewhere. iF that's true, the continuity angle of a HCIW makes more sense.

And then there's this...
@BruceFeldmanCFB: That report about Will Muschamp being "a done deal" to #SouthCarolina is not accurate. I'm told WM is not close to any decision on next job.
