People need perspective with Marshall. The QBs Malzahn inherited were crap... Look at the other new coaches and their QB situations... UT, UK, and Ark have all been shite this year. Given the circumstances, I'm pleased with where we are offensively. We could've easily no signed NM and gotten beat by 40 last night.

I think one of the main issues for Marshall is his height, he can't see over the line as well as he could in JUCO and he's having to adapt to it. One of the main reason's he seems to be a better passer when he's on the move IMO.

Maybe Gus should try some more bootleg passes so Nick can get a better view of the field.

Although he is not tall, many QB's of his height look for passing windows, and use trajectory and touch on the ball to offset that. He throws on such a rope that these big lineman just put up their paws and swat the ball down.

He is the same height as Aaron Murray. He just has a funky delivery on his short throws and the ball comes out very low. He hit a LSU DT in the head and the DT was slightly bent over trying to get a push up the field.

IDK why some of you think Marshall is any better than Chris Todd but you need your goddamn eyes checked

Todd over threw lots of passes. The 2009 Arkansas and bama games were two of the best examples.

I like Marshall. I always have a feeling like a "big play" is about to happen when he's in there. We're just going to have to get used to the over throws batted down passes and turnovers.

QB battle this spring should be interdasting.

Nick is very athletic. He has one pitch though, the fastball. He needs to develop some touch and accuracy. He is not what cost us that game. A fumble, letting them run up the middle for huge chunk plays early, and a dropped punt attempt is what cost us that game.

I would attribute some of that to Gus teaching his qb's to throw without the laces. With time and practice I'm sure most qb's can get used to it, but not in five short weeks. Simple experiment: Go grab a football and throw it around with and without using the laces and feel the difference.

In junior collge..

Trotter was maybe an inch taller and I can't remember him getting anywhere near the amount of passes knocked down.

His passes are getting knocked down because he is trying to aim the football and he ends up short arming the pass. Watch his passes on bubble screen and the lack of zip he sometimes puts on the ball. To me that says he is thinking about his mechanics instead of instinctively firing the pass out there. It's like he is trying to overcompensate in order to ensure the pass is caught.

Well, hell I could throw in the towel and say play JJ, but I'm not. Some did last night too.

Jury is still out on Marshall. Anyone who doesn't think so is clueless. I get he didn't have spring ball and I still think he is getting there and will keep getting better. But again, he does not get a free pass for playing poorly overall last night. We will see if he improves and does better against Ole Miss in a couple of weeks.

I agree. He will have had 4 full games under his belt plus a bye week when we play OM. I expect him to play much better but no more excuses if he continues to struggle with accuracy. I'm not saying it is a make or break game for him remaining the starter but simply that we will know what we have with him moving forward with him the rest of the season and into the next.

Obviously he has small hands and can't throw a wet ball. He came out without a glove on his right hand and he sucked. He put on a glove and he still sucked. In the 2nd half when the rain stopped he took the glove off and he looked a lot better.

He unfortunately is the best we have. He has been on campus 2 months. I'll give him a few more games before I say bring on someone else.

Is that true? Can't tell if that's a joke or not? If so what's the logic behind that?

It's definitely true. There is a Cam quote out there somewhere from 2010 stating it.. Look at the pics I posted of how he is throwing the football and compare it to any random quarterback. Supposedly it's to help the qb get the ball out faster, but I fail to see the logic of it.

No wonder he had a problem with a wet ball then! The glove didn't serve him well either.
