@Lanier - So did you find your house?

Yep. Looked at 7 houses. The very first one is the one my wife wants. And me for what that matters.

Dont have enough money. Need to save a couple more years

We just need to figure out if we want to buy it now and rent it for a few years before we move down. My wife has a few more years at her job before she can retire with all her benefits and I am not ready to move down, financially or with my businesses quite yet.

My wife is dying to put a offer in on this house right now. House is basically move in ready. Comes furnished and everything. Back yard is big enough for a medium size pool and its about 4 blocks from the beach and 4 blocks from the bay.

Lots to talk about this week. Id really like to wait for another year but the prices just keep going up. Id have a mortgage for a few years again and that is something I did not want.

Large rental market on the island. Just have to be careful of the zoning on the property as some can be multiple rents but other areas can't be rented in the season but can be yearly. Best of luck to you and if you guys get down here again let us locals know as we don't have a ton of AU fans down here and always need more!

Have you looked into what insurance will cost a year on the home also. That close to the beach, you might have a steep bill. In gulf shores, not that close to the beach we are at 8k a year.

Some companies won't even insure you in Florida if you are considered to be in a "flood zone". The ones that do jack up the price because of it.

Yea, we had some discussions about that already. Actually not bad where we are looking. Of course you cant know the exact numbers until you know what you are buying.

Most of the island has much older housing that has been revamped. Very little new construction. The house we looked was built in 1984. But has been updated tremendously.

Like I said above, lots to talk about and lots to get done.

I ordered a replacement embroidered blue AU flag and was disappointed to see the AU is smaller than the old flag that I was replacing

Politics not really my thing. I vote and thats about it. Have too many things that I can control to work on.

I could see us going to Tampa for events but not Trump rallies.

You dont like salt water fishing? Reds, trout, snook and tarpon will
be the next adventure for me down there. Switching from fresh to salt
water once I get there...

My sister has a house just south of there on Boca grande. The tarpon and snook fishing is awesome.

Yea, there is some pretty good inshore fishing in that area. Just depends on the time of the year. Looking forward to fishing down there. Got a few more years to put in up here first but it will eventually happen

Be glad that you are not down here this week. Red Tide is bad on the island. We took our weekly bike ride to the beach this morning and was eating breakfast at our normal place on the beach and the smell was almost overwhelming. But still a great place to live.
