I think to most of us who did like Gus and those areas you mentioned that were positive, it WAS that hope that then turned into frustration with how his offense simply never was balanced or without downward production. His offense continually underperformed.

And since 2017 his recruiting started to tail off, so his program did not seem to show signs of rebound or an ability to hang in there with the top SEC programs of AL, GA, and at times LSU.

And it doesn't require repeating his lack of success on the road against the best teams in the league.

How can you say Gus recruiting was going down since 2017.
2018 12 nat
2019 11 nat
2020 7 nat.
I think that going up . He did this with him being on a hot seat EVERY year

His recruiting was going down in certain critical areas especially the OL.
And the reason he was so high in 2020 was bc he signed 27 players, more than anyone in the top 10. He had zero 5*s in that class.

But I agree overall he was a good recruiter, but just not prolific in the lifeblood area of the OL.

I think this also somewhat speaks to the issue of star chasing. We had very highly ranked classes, but compositions was a lot of times very poor, with some players that were poor fits for what we do or utilized very poorly. Gus was not a bad recruiter in get top rated talent, I do think he was a very poor scout of said talent for what he wants to do.

Anyone that argues stars don’t matter is being silly. However, if you aren’t recruiting at the level of Bama, OSU, and Clemson, it is vastly more important to get the guys that fit your scheme better. A high 3* that is a perfect scheme fit will be better for you than a low 4* that doesn’t. Even with Chizik we would get the high rated guys, that may not really fit in with what we are trying to do.

I’m tired of the Gus talk he’s gone. Most agree it was a good decision some disagree. Ok we get it.

Meanwhile something to bitch about AU is we lost out on another target Pollard the linebacker. Everything is fine though.

Corch did you want a Muschamp that will bring in talented recruits based on his recruiting prowess alone and the same old shite on the field? Or did you want a football team?

Mario might’ve done both for us but y’all were extremely pessimistic about him too. But now y’all act like offseason championships matter a handful of months into a new coaching staff.

Corch I’m very disappoint.

The funny part is that Pollard was a 3*, barely ranked above Powell Gordon (he’s actually behind him on the 247). Now we lament the loss

We need fall practice to begin before we’re back in shape on this board

I’m not lamenting the loss just pointing out how poorly we are doing. Being a 3 star even makes it more obvious

Going to be insufferable in here when there are bumps the next couple years.

Malzahn and Auburn had highs, yes. But there were some fricking lows. We sucked against our rivals. Player development was rough. QB play was bad, along with Oline. Play calling was bad and red zone offense was laughable. I’ll give him credit for fixing the defense while he was here.

But hey, 2013 was fun. Thanks Nick Marshall.

I’m just pointing out that you can make anything the narrative you want it to be. Super easy depending on what you’re going for

I’m behind Harsin I support and think it was a decent out of the box hire and I have very high hopes. But I can also point out the obvious that even though we knew it would take time for relationships to be built we are way way underperforming what was even expected to be a drop in recruiting.

2 dead recruiting classes and he won’t make it past year 4-5 to many bodies to fill

Right?

I hate it though. I really like Pollard. Tough one to miss on. I don’t think it is over for him, but it’s the reality right now.

Nah it’s all good this is the all ignorance allowed by both sides thread. Take extreme positions and point and laugh at the other side.

Its not a big loss, but to me the bigger issue is that as far as we know he was probably our top LB target. When you're already recruiting 3* players, missing on them and having to get back up options isn't a good situation to be in.

I fully expect to either take the transfer for King Mwikuta and Ke'Shun Brown or to go JUCO. Beyond that I don't know what options we really have besides hoping someone blows up during the season.

Its not about Harsin or Gus. Its more about a lot of you not calling a spade a spade. You make excuses to cover the fact that we are recruiting at a D2 level right now. You guys take it personal. I want Harsin to succeed. I would not be here If I didnt. Ive been here longer (Auburn wise) than about 90% of you. Just by being a lifetime fan and IM old as frick

But it would be nice for once for people to just call things like they are. Not try to cover up our shitty recruiting right now by this "We are looking for certain kind of guys" crap. WE are looking for the best guys out there. WE just are not getting any. Right now

The only guys who say size dont matter are the guys with little dicks

Thirdlawson need not apply
