So he wasn’t an elite qb in college, and we weren’t recruiting him?

He wasnt elite coming out of high school, you know the only time we can recruit people. He became elite while in college, but you cant blame Gus for missing on what Lamar Jackson became since everyone else did too. Jackson does not help your cause in what you are trying to argue.

He was definitely above average

He was at the end of his career here. He was abysmal at the beginning of 2013.

I was hoping for Gatewood but I’m ready to roll without Bo. He’s a better runner than most give him credit for. The fact of the matter is Bo scored TDs in the scrimmages and Joey didn’t.

Hope you’re being sarcastic, but in this day and age, it’s very possible you’re being serious.

I will sit beside you. I felt Gatewood was the better style of QB for a Gus offense but I trust what the coaches saw at practice and not what we discussed here to be more reliable

Probably. But he looks small to me and some weight would do him some good. Im talking thin, not tall. I like his speed and I hope Gus has taught him how to carry the football. In all his high school videos, he is carrying it out wide like a loaf of bread. Dont like that.

This is such a hard thing to determine. Who knows who was on the field. If he was allowed to read or just run a set play. I mean, we are talking about practice. Non contact practice.

I do agree with jville, which never happens, that Gatewoods upside is the hope that his size will help him run power. That gives our offense a different dimension if the Oline is subpar. Since we dont really know what they can do running the ball and we are basing our opinions on size and dimensions, I will just go with Gustav's decision and hope Nix balls out and is a 3 year starter for Auburn.

I will ride the bus, drive the bus or change a flat time. Whatever I am asked to do

I'm excited to see Bo at QB. Has to be one of the highest QB recruits we have ever had, and I'm hopeful that him beating out a freak athlete with 1 more year of experience is a testament to how good he can be. I thought he looked like the more polished QB in the spring game, by all accounts he has been the more consistent QB during fall camp, and I think he is way underrated as a running threat. Time will tell, but I'm excited to see it unfold in a few weeks.

And he had a lot of wide open receivers, because everybody was afraid of him running. Which is what Joey could bring to the table

I agree with everything you’re saying...but this board will not.

Go watch the highlights. By the end of his career, NM could spin it as well as any modern Auburn QB I've seen. Became an elite deep ball thrower.

I think everyone understands that, yet somehow, despite that great advantage, Joey couldn’t beat out a true freshman.

And I think you guys aren’t accepting this based on scrimmages not being live. Not sure what you want anyone to say here

Hasn’t it already been reported that Bo is faster than Gatewood? His ability to convert the short down and distance is what I liked most about Gatewood. Let’s not act like he’s a 4.5 type runner.

You act like Malzahn has a great track record for picking the right QB. Excuse me if I’m skeptical.

Here's the thing: whether or not you're discussing short yardage running ability, big play running ability, or scrambling ability, no one in here knows if Gatewood is actually elite at any of it. It's all speculative. It's all rooted in hope of seeing the 2010/2013 Auburn offenses reincarnated.

When were times that you think the best QB on the roster did not play?

Just curious

Exactly. I would argue the only time was 2015, but who among us could have seen Sean "Glass" White was the better option than JJ who was showing up on mock drafts and heisman lists.

You’re probably not the expert on credibility right now. Not trying to pile on but you’ve had a rough August here

You may want to stay away from track record posts for a few months
