I can't think of a single game he won that he wasn't supposed to win or at least was a toss up.

I mean, I get what you're saying but every Iron Bowl win, '17 UGA rd 1 are just a couple.

2013 will always be a special year. So many highlight wins. The NC would have made it magical.

A pulled hammy on a kick return. And 2 guys miss a tackle on a WR and runs down like 50 extra yards.

and '17 win totals are the two seasons that balance each of those 3 yr blocks out. Everything outside of that was very, very average.

Pretty much. Not including 2013 and 2017 Gus went 46-29 overall and had a 26-24 record in the SEC during the other 6 years, a 61% winning percentage. The very definition of mediocre.

No doubt, watching that game at the Rose Bowl and that season is a memory I'll always cherish, even though we lost.

That's just dumb

Can you name them?

I realize he wasn't favored against bama in 2013, 2017 or 2019 but those were toss up games at home. Same with uga 2017. What were the major upset wins?

I just realized I missed typed the last part. I was trying to suggest he never won a game that wasn't at least a toss up win. I.E. single digit home dog.

That's not what you initially said, though...

Do you really feel like the program got better year over year with Gus?

Yes. I typed it then didn't check till this morning. My thought was different than what I typed. I corrected it now, but I can see where the confusion came from.

I stand by my statement Gus never had a win that was a true upset. Or at least I have no memory of that win.

So the point I was making was he lost 10 or more games where he had the better team...never won a game where he was clearly inferior, but pulled an upset...to his credit he had inferior teams in a few games at the end but managed to still lose them. I guess that's why I believe the change had to be made. I don't expect miracle results, but the predictability of it all brought the "stale" aspect.

I don't recall the spread, but the '14 LSU beat down was a surprise. If only for the final margin.

Like I said, I understand what you were getting at, and after 2013, he lost more toss up games than won. There are certainly more out of the blue losses than out of the blue wins.

We were a 7.5 favorite at home ranked #5 against a one loss #15 LSU team. The blowout was a bi too of a surprise. But a convincing win wasn't.

Do you remember a upset win in his tenure? (Upset being more than a 10 point dog at home or a 7 point road dog)

A couple SEC championships or at least now with the championship game playing for a couple. A couple of average type years and a couple years where the roster turns over and are below average

Was Gus’s compensation average?

I think that is the crux of the matter.

His results were not congruent with a top 5 salary.

That contract really made it impossible not to fire him.
It was an amazing contract for Sexton and Gus.
Rubes were on the other side of the negotiation.
Nobody was going to offer that much, and if they did we could have gone 7-6 to 9-4 with any of 30 coaches.
