Our basketball team may be a disadvantage if he wants serious playing time

One concerning thing for me is we are almost nonexistent with the top talent in GA and FL this cycle. Not sure what to think. I know that is offset by out TX guys, but still.

First year in my lifetime that Georgia has locked down their top in state talent.

quote:There’s still quite a bit to play out here. We are in the thick of it with Fairchild and are apparently making a move with Mondon. A couple of people connected to the program right now are expecting him to commit to Auburn in June even though most consider Georgia to be the favorite.

Good points. The lag could also be attributed to the new hires. Holefully we close well.

Auburn makes Top 8 for Kansas City (Mo.) DL Tobechi Okoli
quote:
After receiving 23 scholarship offers, Kansas City, Missouri defensive lineman Tobechi Okoli announced Saturday that he’ll be focusing his recruitment on 8 schools, including 4 from the SEC.
Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky and Missouri made Okoli’s list along with Kansas State, Michigan, Nebraska and Oklahoma.
“I will be focusing on these schools moving forward. I am very grateful to every college and coach that has recruited me up to this point,” Okoli tweeted.
The Lincoln College Prep standout is listed at 6-5, 250 pounds and rated the No. 7 recruit in Missouri, No. 37 strong-side defensive end and No. 553 prospect overall nationally in the class of 2021 on the 247Sports Composite.
quote:
247Sports National Recruiting Analyst Allen Trieu evaluated Okoli in March, noting the potential for him to one day play in the NFL:
Big, long body and has quickly gotten bigger and added good weight. Good athlete who can cover a lot of ground quickly and get off the ball.
Shows aggressiveness. Has not played football for long and is still learning technique. Has to keep improving lateral agility as well. Big upside.
Will need some time but has the athleticism and size to play for many schools around the country and have a shot at playing beyond college.

I noticed Bama has two guys predicted to them to play Football and Basketball. Saban is playing the game now. When they sign, that would be when Saban forces them to pick one.

FIFY. The only reason saban hasn't called the dogs and his good buddy at the NCAA yet is because Skirby can't beat him.

I think it’s inevitable that eventually the stars would align and the top talent In GA would happen to be UGA leans.
The top 25 in their state will change some and we’re in the hunt for several but it does feel different this year. To be determined if it continues. History says it won’t. This coronavirus is part of the problem. Coaches and players aren’t traveling for recruitment

I have a theory tho. The life cycle of a coaches strategic plan is in the 4ish year mark. You have to strike within that timeframe, or you have to reorg. Gus missed his in that 14-15 season(s). Kirby is at the end of his. He will have to produce or revamp his entire program. Critical year for him.

What do you consider "to produce?" Winning a national championship? Only one team wins that.
Or would you say finishing 13-2, 11-3, and 12-2 while finishing 3, 1, 2, and 1 in recruiting team rankings producing?
While we have had 1 (ONE) single back to back 10 win seasons in our history, Kirby has done so in 3 out of his first 4 years...
If that isnt producing i dont know what is... Granted his methods of obtaining those recruiting rankings are questionable, the results that have been produced sure are not.
I despise everything about UGA AND bowl cut. But to say he has not produced as a head coach is laughable.

For starters, Kirby's main marketing pitch has been come to UGA and win a championship. That loses steam eventually. Saban is the master and pivoting his plan.

I think AUCE’s point was that UGA isn’t accomplishing much more than they were previously.
Regardless, they’ve been quite good still. Right in the middle of an elite handful of teams. Just haven’t gotten past the finish line yet.
I’d say even though the results are technically similar that Kirby has the program in a better spot. Competition in the SECE has improved and they haven’t missed a beat. Just shows how difficult it is to win the natty. UGA certainly had a few deserving teams
