Gus can’t make the throws for Stidham. He’s just off for some reason this year. Short to intermediate hot and high most of the time...how many wide open deep throws has he missed? I know the blocking hasn’t been great, but even when he has time he’s been off target. I don’t blame that on coaching.

David Johnson and Paul Smith at Tulsa were pocket passers that had no problem operating in Gus’s system.

Justin Fields is an incredible talent. I would take him in a heartbeat.

I don't think people realize that Gus is a stubborn SOB that doesn't prefer running QBs. The Cam and Marshall offenses were outliers. His "bread and butter" offense is what we saw last year and this year. Any a-hole can see that he and AU are so much better off with what the offense we ran in 2010 and 2013, but Gus HAS to prove to the world that his offense will work in the SEC. He would rather get runt off trying to prove to the world he's right than admit his "other" offense is better.

A year of Fields here means a year under Gus and the more time Gus has with a QB the worse they get.

I look back now at auburn's slow start in 2010 as Gus couldn't figure out what to do with Superman standing on the field. I bet most high level OCs would have figured it out sooner, except maybe Richt. He'd have him playing TE.

2013 I think was all Marshall being himself and surprisingly good talent in key places- like a good RB and FB.

Gus would frick up Fields because Gus is a frick up.

So how do you explain Nick Marshall's improvement from 2013->2014 then?

Marshall was the perfect fit for Gus's system. So was Cam. Everyone else since is a square peg in a round hole

Outlier.

And even then, wouldn’t we all choose the 2013 offense over the 2014 offense?

Or, better yet, the offensive mindset?

This wasn’t posted Monday morning and it’s a hypothetical scenario.

And apparently Gus and squad have got together and decided we didn't need him.

Unbelievable.

His improvement was as minimal as it could be and still be considered an improvement. His passing yards went up a little but his rushing yards dropped dramatically. So it was a wash. I don't think anyone would take 2014 Marshall over 2013 Marshall.

I'm struggling to think of similarities between the system Gustav ran at Tulsa and our current offense.

That was in the Sun Belt back when HUNH was innovative and caught defenses with their pants down

I’ll take 2014 Marshall in the 13 offense

I truly believe 2014 Marshall hits WIDE open Ricardo Louis on that first drive of the game against FSU. 2013 NM threw the ball at his feet....which cost us 7 points & we see how that ended.

Less than 300

Didn't realize a 25% increase in pass yds and 50% increase in pass TDs + improvements in YPA, Comp% and stats vs P5 only was "went up a little"

Also not sure why Marshall should be penalized for dropoffs in OL/RB talent

Do you give Gus a pass on 2018 and 2019, and roll the dice with Justin Fields as a redshirt sophomore in 2020?

I don't think we have a choice, the Ole Miss win is going to keep us from buying out Gus this year.

I'm sure if we absolutely had to do it we could, but if Gus makes the Birmingham Bowl then I believe he's safe.

Leath and the board members responsible for this wreckless contract should be removed from decision-making for Auburn.

That said, Justin Fields was the consensus #2 overall prospect, behind Trevor Lawrence, and would likely do very well under Gus. He made the worst decision ever in going to UGA. The 2019 Auburn QB situation is downright frightening. I think Bo Nix will end up the same way Stidham has, regresss under Gus because Gus doesn't adapt his offense to develop a true passing QB.

I think we will see more designed runs and zone reads from Nix. He ran a 4.60 at the opening this summer. That’s not NM speed, but it’s definitely enough that you have to account for it.

Difference between 2013 and 2014 was the OL. Marshall improved.
