Last night's game reminded me of the Clemson game opener a few years ago. Quality opponent, struggling performance but still had a chance to win at the end. The difference is we did win and on the road. It was ugly but with moments that give us reason for optimism. Every Auburn fan knows we dont start playing to potential for at least a few games. I'm encouraged by what I saw. I like the way our schedule let's us ease into conference play. We will get better.

Right there with you. I love Bo's grit, but he played like shite.

Nix played far from "like shite".

He made some good plays. He made some mistakes. What I love ws he took one sack....about 6-7 of those incomplete passes were throw aways.....Stid would have taken a 5 yard sack.

I think he much faster than most give him credit for.

I loved his moxy. When I saw him directing and commanding the team on the final drive I told my wife that kid will win it for us. He was born for this. He will improve. He will still make some mistakes...but to say an 18 yr old in his first college start against a good team that won us the game played like shite......NOT TRUE

We looked more capable Saturday night than either Clemson game IMO.

The OL at first struggled with protection and opening holes. Oregon was amped and crowding the line pretty much daring us to throw. In the second half, you could visibly see the damage the OL and Boobie had on their front. They were gassed and Boobie started gashing them. So I’m satisfied with the physicality and conditioning.

The back end of our defense is solid and I thought Britt had a good game. Pappoe will continue to get better. Less concerned with the LB’s than I was before the game. Dinson had an all sec caliber game, he was everywhere. Tutt played well and did a nice job returning punts. Did our DE’s get too big over the summer? Didn’t really see any speed from the edges, but Truesdell and Davidson did a pretty good job clogging the middle.

Coverage on special teams was terrible and will need to be addressed. Siposs punted well, Carlson made his kicks.

Bo made the mistakes you expect from a frosh. His ability to move around and avoid pressure is refreshing after having a statue back there for the last two years. He bailed a little too early a few times, but he also bailed us out with his legs a few times. It will take a little time to build that chemistry with the WR to not stop working and come back to the ball when he scrambles. I think the zone reads are going to be a nice weapon for us this year.

Overall, I was encouraged for a first game. Wasn’t nearly as sloppy as several other teams I watched. The false start by Wanogho after the touchdown can’t happen and could have lost us the game. But overall, the team played a pretty clean game.

This can't be understated. Bo knows (see what I did there?) how to avoid sacks, which is as good as getting good protection sometimes, especially with our crappy OL.

Expectations?

Coaching (typical Gus first game)...

1. inconsistent playcalling.
(running Worm on sweeps is not his forte)
2. Running the main RB to death(Boobie is going to get hurt)
I thought Cadillac was going to use more backs?)
3. Bad playcalling near goal( Gus agreed)
4. very few penalites was good to see for 1st game
5. Liked his call at end of game. I was nervous to use
Carlson on anything over 40+ for now.

QB play

1. Bo has the 'IT' factor. Knows how to lead and be
aggressive. Players follow that type of leadership
2. Only problem i saw, was he scrambled out of the pocket
sometimes when he didn't really need too.
3. He is quicker and faster, and some of the RPO runs
were good gains (he definitely is better than Stidham)
4. Can't tell if he had good passing options, but didn't
see slants, and other shorter routes to help him w/
his confidence and completion %

Overall

1. Good win. Team got better after adjustments
2. DL is strong, but Ends still not quick enough to QB
3. LBs were HITTERS. And looked lost on some formations
4. DBs. Why they still can't see the ball coming, puzzles
me. On TE TD, our DB stood flatfooted and didn't play
ball at all. Got to get better.
5. STs. Punt defense needs better gunners. never touched
the Punt returner. Could have cost us game at end.
6. OL Just not dominant enough to open up consistent
holes for RBs. Boobie had to MAKE his tough yds.
7. RBs Why was Worm or Joiner not given a chance on RB
plays to rest Boobie. Worms carries were only outside.
That is not his strength to me. He is not a cutter.
8. WRs. Hastings and Williams were go to guys, and
Cannella. Needed better pass plays for short routes
9. TEs. nevermind. Gus DID throw one time to Nye. Need
Wilson involved more.

I think you hit on one of the biggest areas that should make us optimistic.

This kid has the ability to avoid sacks. He needs to learn when to take the small gain or throw it away, but cannot blame a true freshman qb for trying to force the ball in some of those situations.

Also, we do not know how good Oregon will be, but I am pretty confident they are better than any of the other OOC teams the SEC played.

For a first week game, the errors were not nearly as bad as I expected.

And finally, while there may be concerns in a few weeks, it feels great to have a W out of the gate. Plus I got the added pleasure of knowing we re-opened the scars Oregon still has towards the team and pissing on their dreams of revenge.

Great win.

Plenty of areas to improve.

Presnap penalties must get corrected.
Turnovers must get cleaned up.

Running back rotation needs work.

We threw to the TE.

Routes are too bunched up at times.

Need to do some bootlegs or waggles.
