Durkin's Maryland record doesn't inspire a ton of confidence but small sample size

Maryland has been, and always will be a minnow amongst a few slabs in the Big Ten.
Its a hard job. They only have one coach with a winning pct above .500 going back to the 80s. Ralph Friedgen who was 75-50 from '01-'10.
ETA: I could be wrong and Sumrall kills it at Auburn or some other P4 school, but of those three mentioned, I would take Durkin or Brohm over him. Sumrall seems like a major gamble. My thinking is because he has followed guys who spent a long time building up the programs at places like Troy and Tulane.

Sumrall did a good job turning Troy around quickly after Chip Lindsey did a terrible job following up Neal Brown. I agree though, he is definitely a gamble. His work at Tulane has been fine, but Fritz really got that program to where it is. So much is unknown with him.

Yep and they are less than pleased with him there too

Hoke can F off with this stuff. True or not, slimy as hell waiting to report it after he has been let go.
The Auburn media is a joke. I've been watching press conferences for prospective coaches, and the incompetence is blaring.
Hoke is one of the least rediculous, but he's still gatekeeping. Did his subscribers know about the golfing and the 4th and FML? I'd be livid if I were paying for inside information and only getting half the story.

And then throw the fact that Neal Brown fizzled out quickly after making the leap to WV. The more and more I think about it the more it seems like Durkin may not be the worst option.. definitely not saying he’s priority one

Perceptively, it doesn't seem like Tulane is doing very much to fight to keep Sumrall. Maybe they know it is a futile endeavor or we just aren't hearing anything form their end, but something of interest to take note of.

They have no chance of keeping him from taking an SEC job, which they already know he would take. They couldn't even keep Fritz from leaving to Houston - what are they going to do to keep Sumrall from Auburn LOL?

As I said, it may be because they know it is a futile effort. Just find it odd the AD wouldn't come out and say something about doing everything they can to try and keep him or something. If nothing else for the team's perspective while they are still having a good season.

Yeah, I forgot about Chip in there.
Neal Brown is another one of those G5 guys that was very good and was absolutely mediocre when he made the jump to P4. Shot in the dark.

Cohen says he's going to listen to experts, will only use as search firm for the background check role if he needs, but he is putting this all on himself as "I am the committee" Durkin absolutely has an opportunity to be in the pool of candidates.

He also said that if we JUST had an average SEC offense there's no telling where we would be now.
He also completely attempted to dispel the myth of the PTB being in some kind of control at Auburn, "That has not been my experience once in the past 3 years...It's likely a myth created by another school in this state"

Durkin, "There's a difference in what you do and how you do it"
Derrick Nix will be the playcaller, every play he'll be the playcaller. I think the players respond to him.
Durkin will still call the defense.

There are 3 names that I'd feel the same way I felt about Freeze when we hired him - as in they'd be almost impossible to support.
1. Jimbo Fisher
2. Urban Meyer
3. Bobby Petrino
Avoid these at all costs.

I'll add Dan Mullen to that list

N King has an article out on 247 that reads like Sumerall has been actively shopping himself to Auburn for a few weeks.

Like him or not what he says makes sense and it is the truth.

No doubt. We have all of the ingredients to be great, but we are not. We are a terrible football program right now. All self inflicted.
