One of my bestfriends graduated from UTK and he’s absolutely livid. He donates a fair amount of money to their NIL program and was being asked for more yesterday.

I think the bubble will pop soon. Lot of money folks are already tired of it at various different schools.

Next step. You sign a kid to a multiple year contract, not a hotshot QB, but lets say a tackle, for a small sum. He blows up in performance and some school comes along and "buys out" his contract and pays him a princely sum.

Gotta get some guardrails around this at some point or it will end up just where we thought it would. The Oregons and Texas schools buying everyone. And revenue sharing will just lead to the same boosters paying above the 20 million or so allotted to the schools.

Remember the days when people said the NFL would never pay up front guaranteed money before a kid plays a down?

Only way to deal with it is how Tenn did. However it’s easier when u have a 5* backup that may be ready to step in

I told you all months ago why the traditional HS QB recruiting model will need to be seriously re-evaluated, and Nico was the literal example I gave at the time.

Tennessee threw millions of dollars into a garbage can and set it on fire by choosing to placate a young QB who wasn't even ready to take them to the next level. And because they did that the kid and his family felt that they held all the power over the program, and started coming at them with nonsensical salary increase demands. Now the kid leaves, and Tennessee didn't even win anything while he was there because they were playing the Freshman and Sophomore version of Nico...not the "fully developed" Junior or Senior version who may have been able to lead them to a title.

I can't imagine he gets 8 million anywhere, but 5 years ago I wouldn't have imagined a kid getting 1 million....within the rules. Whatever Cam got looks like a bargain

He ackshully did tell us and the board felt it on the chin.

Does anyone remember when people griped about the investment into Thorne and I said it could be even worst and pointed out Nico was less productive than Thorne despite Thorne coming at a #deepfrickingvalue

Man, what a time to be alive. I remember a time where we couldn't even do that. Things are really on the up and up.

That's not how things work in the recruiting world. Everything is tea leaves.
