Does Turbo SUCK or something? We know J'Von is pretty decent and he's a senior. We'll be fine at PG

Tyrell Jones isn't ready to be counted on for reliable PG minutes.

LOL.. What makes you think that? Simply because he isn't on campus yet or he isn't capable?

He'll be a great fit. His natural ability is off the charts... he just needs good coaching. He has the ability to do what we want.

His high potential doesn't change the fact that he has very raw PG skillset on top of being a FR

As you said

he just needs good coaching

I have high expectations for him to develop but that takes time and good coaching. Hard to imagine fall practice and a handful of games is near enough

Not ideal to be relying on him to consistently provide quality 10-15m as a PG

We picked up a couple more CBs for Shariffe.

But Brandon Boston was also picked to Kentucky by Jerry Meyer and another dude.

TURBO RELL AU

What is so raw about his skillset?

No one really knows how quick he'll develop.

You could've said the same thing about McCormick at the beginning of last season.

I personally think his specific natural skills fit exactly with what we want to do and it'll help him develop faster because of it. Having said that, you never really know..

FR point guards consistently struggle to adjust to play making/controlling the offense at a higher level.

So when one key area of improvement is decision making which is observed at the HS level, that's a huge concern

Exactly and for a F4 team wanting to make another run, having only 2 very inexperienced and unproven PGs should be scary AF

Ya and he was terrible to the point of being near unplayable if not for limited alternatives

So we now want to likely have a drop-off at starting PG AND unreliable backup?

Some nuggets that I paraphrased from a Caldwell article:

Pearl says “I’ve got Champagne taste” and he will only add a GT that can help get him there. Could add one or two GT players. Could also add zero if they don’t find the type of players that they want.

Says J’von earned the right for him to not bring in a GT PG although grabbing a combo guard could still be in play since losing the whole backcourt.

A versatile forward to help replace Okeke could also be sought.

Doesn’t want younger guys because of how talented the 2020 class is. Says he has a solid base on the 2020 class.

Great article from the Auburn Plainsmen:

LINK
Some of the article:
quote:

Dr. Leath and Allen Greene both recognized that an adjustment needed to be made,” Pearl said. “It really wasn’t anybody’s idea; it was something that obviously we were rewarded because we were competitive.” As a coach, Pearl has rapidly ascended into the sport’s elite thanks to his wild success on The Plains. As a result, it’s not far-fetched to gather that other schools will — if they haven’t already — come knocking.

But Pearl has a message of assurance for the orange and blue faithful: he wants to close out his college coaching career with the Tigers. “You don’t work this hard to try to establish yourself and build some trust and credibility and then up and just give it up and let somebody else walk into it and leave it,” Pearl said. “That’s just not how I roll; that’s now how I’m built. … I hope this is my last college coaching job — at Auburn. I’ve got plenty left in the tank.”

We had to have earned brownie points by just giving the man a second chance at coaching.

Cheers Jay Jacobs. I know you read this board anyway.

Last college coaching job. Makes it seem there’s a chance he pulls a Billy Donovan if someone at the NBA level became interested enough

I wouldn’t blame him if that were to ever occur either. Glad to hear he’s here for the long run otherwise

Not Auburn related but it's funny to see the LSU fans gloating and Bama fans melting over Watford. Another in a long line over over-hyped Alabama 5 stars that will have a solid but unspectacular college career and wind up playing in Europe 3 or 4 years from now.

What’s even funnier is that LSU likely paid him too

Yeah, it's not exactly a well-kept secret around Birmingham. Same with him playing for Mountain Brook in the first place

I don't think his intensity would translate well

Along with almost every non-white athlete that plays there. It’s actually impressive the lengths they go to regulate who is allowed to go there.

At this point is LSU in the clear or is this investigation just getting rolling? Haven’t paid attention.

There isn't an investigation into them (yet), but they're not in the clear yet either and their fans are delusional to think otherwise. Don't listen to tRantards

Auburn will host five-star junior Walker Kessler for an official visit next weekend, a source told
@Stockrisers
. Major target for Bruce Pearl.

Not only Kessler, but a few others. SG Justin Powell also. He just went off at the NIKE EYBL event in Atlanta. Was named to the honorable mention team after shooting 58% from the international three-point line. Big programs like KY (and Auburn) are on him now. LINK

Don’t be surprised to see Cooper show up and maybe Boston as well.

Some other random 2020/2021 prospects as well. Clifford Omoruyi and Rongie Gordon being the most significant. Here’s Omoyuri LINK

I think we can all appreciate the fact that Bruce is about to big dick Gus on Big Cat weekend.
