It usually is for all schools at this point but I have better sense that there is a plan to execute instead of waiting until game 3 to decide on a plan.

I get that. It was for effect only. Having a little fun with the subject.

Manning not starting is a surprise. I think he graded out the top lineman last year.
I had the same question. Listening to his presser, though, all those guys mentioned are still getting both 1 and 2 reps. I'd be surprised if Manning isn't ultimately a starter, given his PFF grade from last year

From Nathan King's Twitter ...

quote:
Auburn center Nick Brahms with the quote of the night from Tiger Talk: “Bo’s been under center a lot. I don’t know much he likes it, especially at the end of practice. I might need to start putting a towel down there.”

Nope, he clearly says the no. 1 defense stopped 70% but the no. 1 offense went 60% conversion probably against no 2.
The confusing part is that Harsin has been saying they’re going 1v1, 2v2, etc. Reading between the lines - I’m guessing enough guys were out that they had limited snaps of 1s only

247 article on Nix/Bobo
quote:
“We have a lot more multiple plays where we have some plays off of different scenarios,” Nix pointed out. “Whatever the defense is giving us we are allowed to check to get us in the right play. I am excited about it.
“I know there will be a learning curve just from the different offenses,” Nix said as his team prepares for a September 4th home opener vs. the Akron Zips. “Playing against different teams will be fun–a fun challenge."
quote:
Auburn’s leader on the offensive front, senior preseason All-SEC center Nick Brahms, agrees with his quarterback that the 2021 offense is a different one for the Tigers. “It is a lot more multiple, a lot more checks with Bo based on what the defense is giving,” Brahms pointed out
“I feel like we can get ourselves in better situations,” the senior center said. “We can really run off the ball and get our hats inside and fit our eyes where they need to be, and really know what the defense is doing pre-snap, which helps us a lot. He has seen a lot. There is probably nothing he hasn’t seen.”

That is one thing I am really excited for. There have been so many times over the years that I could look at how the defense was lined up and know we are running right into it instead of altering the play.

This is exciting to have a coaching staff focusing on what's actually going on on the field and educating the players to play the game not just run plays in a "system". I'm pumped to see this manifest, knowing that it will take a couple games to get rolling.

Brahms had a broken leg and damaged knee, as soon as the bone healed they put him in with two atrophied legs with little muscle on them and surprise surprise, he got pushed all over the field.
He now has well over a year of conditioning and we will see his potential fulfilled.
With he, and at guards Manning, Council, Jones and now Jackson, our interior line is very stout. Hopefully Troxell stays healthy and Coffey can step up on the right hand side or Hamm shows some improvement.
Hamm is a great guard filling in out of position, kudos to him for the effort.

Why do I feel like this is the third straight year reading this?

It was a good excuse in 2019, maybe ‘20, but it’s no longer valid, IMO
He’s an average SEC center. That’s not the end of the world and he’s pretty low on my list of concerns going into the season

True, but I support him for his obvious efforts to improve. He's also the best one we've got so people shouldn't be down on him.

I’m not putting him down. There’s at least 7 centers that are probably worse than him. Might be a handful better but they haven’t proven it yet either
Like I said, least of my worries heading into the season

I think those 7 centers are in high school (just kidding)
Our center's biggest adjustment will be the fact that Harsin's offense will require him to make more calls at the line, and know where a lot of the defense is, which wasn't required by Gus' offense.
