If he is talking about arm strength, I don't see how that is possible. I saw Nick Marshall throw a ball some 75 yards in the air

throwing it far doesn't always equal the amount of zip you can put on a 25 yd out route.

Its like when i played baseball there were guys that could throw the ball a mile when long-tossing but still only threw mid 80s.

Speaking to long-tossing a baseball... I used to be one of those guys who could throw a baseball around 90 at infield distances, but my long-toss never seemed to be proportionately effective. I found that long-toss is more about getting on top of the baseball and getting good backspin so that the ball will carry.

As for a football... I've never really witnessed the same phenomena. If Marshall can throw it further, he should also be able to throw it harder. Spiral might be a factor, I guess.

I asked about this quote last night, somewhere on here

I saw it quoted several times on twitter yesterday but never found a link to actually read it in context.

If Gus said that I'm sure he is including accuracy into the mix.

I'll be "long tossing" it if we win a come out and put a hurting on our first few opponents.

So it goes. We'll see soon enough if there was a deeper meaning to what he said (if he said it).

(Malzahn's) rushing offense has finished in the top five nationally three times. Auburn ran for more than 284 yards per game with Cam Newton and Michael Dyer leading the charge behind a seasoned offensive line in 2010. This year's offensive line could be even better, Malzahn said. LINK

like the backspin helps with long toss, the RPMs help with a football. If you get a ton of spin on the ball, you can throw it farther.

True freshman defensive end Elijah Daniel was 6-foot-4, 250-pounds when he signed, but reported closer to 270-pounds. Observers indicate that Daniel looks like a defensive tackle in the making and may project better at that position. The defensive tackle needs for that position would adjust accordingly.

Believe it or not, junior Kiehl Frazier was earning second team reps at safety on Thursday evening and actually made some plays. One observer said, "he looked a lot more natural than I ever thought he would back there." Interesting to see how that develops.

Good for Kiehl. It'll be nice to talk about KF and interceptions and it be a positive conversation.

I always thought Keihl would be solid at Safety just surprised he is already breaking into the rotation so early. He ran through people his freshman year and could lay a hit on people as wildcat QB.

He has experience playing safety from high school and I'd imagine his QB knowledge will help him back there. I am excited for his senior season

I posted this in the recruiting thread to clarify some short hand notes that were over there. I am posting it here as it is about fall practice. Per War Room the QBs were very inconsistent throwing. All of them. Lashlee was not pleased on Thursday evening,. It appeared that Marshall was the starter and Wallace earned the majority of the second-team reps on Thursday night's scrimmage. When Marshall's on, he's spot on, but when he's off, the ball was uncatchable. Marshall carries himself like the starter.

Question has to be how often is he on? If it is 1/3 of the games we are already better than our QB play last year.

Wallace getting the majority of the number two reps is surprising to me. No way I thought he'd be ahead of JJ right now. They should both be starting from scratch in the new offense. If JJ was behind, I'd be worried.
