He's been running first team most of the practices.

I assure you JW will not be our QB, as of today KF has a slight lead. JJ is #2 and closing on KF. This is from a very trusted source in the AD and watched the scrimmage.

How would everyone feel if JJ is named starter?

He's never gonna live down saying that.

My general understanding is that a defensive coach was addressing his unit about a particular technique he was trying to adjust and the players were not cooperative with the instruction because they didn't necessarily like it. That coach let them know it wasn't their call and Gus addressed units as a whole about attitude and effort.

I don't know the particular coach or unit but I was led to believe it was Harbison's guys.
If this is true then it may just show how the players did as they pleased last year unless its the new safeties. I hope the staff breaks anyone who thinks they can do as they please or puts them on the road.

Not what I am seeing from 5 diff sources. 1 being BM. They all pick NM to win the job and they are all saying NM and KF are battling for 1 and 2. JJ has impressed but been inconsistent with management and presnap adjustments but could make a big move with Saturday's scrimmage.

And if 23 is your source as usual he is 1 of the 5 I am referring to that have NM and KF in the top 2.

I don't know if the coaches will throw JJ in unless all the others fail. Even if he is as good as the others. He would have to be way better than the others to play. Gus had to have learned from what happen KF going in too early.

If JJ were named the starter my expectations would drop substantially. More so than if KF was.

That is nothing against JJ. That is simply due to the thought of a true freshman that did not even go through spring training starting in the SEC after 3 weeks of camp.

I know Phillip Marshall is high on JJ. He said yesterday if JJ doesn't start he isn't sure if he'll redshirt or not.

So obviously PM thinks he's right up there in the mix

I agree on the first part but in the end I don't think KF going in too early has anything to do with his issues. I have come to the opinion that he is just not mentally strong and mentally consistent enough to be a good QB. The crap with Chiz sure did not help but if that was the main reason for his issues he would be much more consistent now under Gus and Rhett.

That is great and encouraging. JJ is hopefully our future.

Ideal scenario (IMO) is NM starts, JJ is named #2 and continues to get better an push him all season long.

The battle for #2 is important. #2 gets more reps and attention and has to mentally prepare each week in case there is an injury or #1 falls apart.

I think that is a better plan than a RS for JJ if JJ can handle it and is good enough to be the #2. Hell, maybe by mid year, he starts seeing PT in a limited roll.

Fake Gabe also said JJ had a great scrimmage and showed a lot of poise in the pocket. Players are praising him according to Fake Gabe.

I take it all with a grain of salt coming from him, but he does know a lot of players..

He is right on these.I think NM will not turnover the ball as much now that he has more relative talent around him and will not have to play the role of super hero.

Looks like jljr agrees with you from the qb thread. He said NM just minutes before that post. Probably just a mental lapse.
