I love the people on The SEC rant that take our National Championship talk seriously.

I'm pretty sure you said SECCG and there is no amount of copying and pasting and reposting that is going to convince me otherwise.

Ellitor said we would win the SEC in 2014. It happened

He is late by a year, but that is cool.

Just spoke with a buddy of mine who got to watch practice on Friday. He said it was pretty rough for the offense, and to go ahead and manage expectations. Confirmed our DL didn't look very good, and all the QB's were pretty inaccurate.

fwiw, if you aren't doing this already after a 3-9 season and coaching change, then you need to have your head examined. If anyone is expecting a 9 or 10 season, take a step back and understand that's probably not going to happen. We play several top 10 teams and a couple other teams with more established staffs/rosters.

I'm excited about the future and think in 2014 we could make a run at the West... with that said, we gotta a long way to go. You don't cure our problems in 9 months.

ETA: what Ole Miss did last year should be our starting point. They went 3-9, changed staffs, and brought in a JUCO QB to run the spread offense. I think we can do better than 7-6, but I'm not convinced. Defensively, it sounds like we're still a year or two away from middle of the pack.

Pump the brakes. You don't go from 3-9 to 14-0.

Well, obviously, but he said getting over 6 wins would be a stretch from what he saw. I was expecting 8-9 including the bowl.

Don't shoot the messenger.

this is what closed practices gets you... third hand info from a guy who watched warm ups. I wish they'd open it up and let fans judge for themselves like some other programs do.

We'll all see for ourselves in 12 days. I remember Chizik's first year there was similar stuff going around (no talent, no depth, teams looks bad, etc.)... i'm not saying we didn't look bad, but bad teams win 7 games in this conference (look at Ole Miss last year, or even Auburn in 2011 and 2009)... basing win totals off of warm ups is fking stupid, imo.

Not shooting the messenger but is your friend a professoinal evaluator of football talent? Did he coach football at somepoint?

I ask bec. telling ppl to manage expectations after one practice is pretty silly. Players have good and bad practices weekly. He could have seen our DL and QB's have a bad day...or they could be poor.

I see nothing wrong with my expectatoins of 8 wins. I see a 4-0 OOC schedule, I see the two Magnolia state teams being average and playing at JHS, and I see UT adn Arky having very bad seasons. Add an upset in there(those happen every year) and AU could be staring at 9 wins.

Your friend could be very right...I wasn't at practice and he was. Maybe he knows more about football than I do but I'm keeping my expectations high.
