This is what will be interesting. Will we give him 3/4 years? Buyout?

Watch that idiot Jay Jacobs give him guaranteed money for 3 years. Our football program is being ran into the ground by amateurs and idiots.

I could have won the lottery but my dad never let me buy lotto tickets.
This is the stupidest comment in the thread. Whether or not Pat Dye has any involvement, Auburn was going to make a terrible hire.

Obviously I think Gus is a great offensive mind, but he's totally failed at this part of HCing and it will eventually get him fired. He just doesn't understand the logistics that comes with his position. i like Gus and hope we luck into a good DC hire (I'm not a Steele fan). Kinda at a loss for words, basically I think Gus has no idea what he's doing when it comes to hiring coaches.
Eta: what kind of program have we become trying to outbid someone for Steele? If we get Steele I'll retire from this board the right way.
Eta2: Why Steele and why not Chavis? Chavis would be a way better hire.

I don't care if Steele is DC next season, but if JJ gives him a sweetheart K I'll fricking melt for sure

I like the hire. Certainly the most known commodity out of all the names we've seen. And if out of all this O is promoted at LSU, then this is a slam dunk win for AU.

You don't get the jobs Steele has on his resume without being a good coach. He may not be great but no great DC was coming to AU in 2016.

I'll take the heat for this hire guys, I mocked LSU fans last year when Steele was hired. I really let them have it and now Karma has bit my arse in a big way, feel free to let your frustrations out on me.

Save money. Either Gus puts together an offense with enough points a game to win 8 or 9 or .....

Steele has been demoted or fired from all DC role or higher he has been in.
If we hired him as a LB coach, I'd be pretty stoked about it. he has never seen success in any other role in CFB

Lance Thompson over Steele? The one who hasn't coordinated a defense in 10 years? You guys are hilarious.

Why not get steele and keep lance?

Ellis Johnson fielded better defenses as DC

Because outbidding LSU for Steele means were are going to pay $1.25+mil with guarantees for an average coach
Would you pay $100,000 for a Honda Civic?
