I am a huge fan of the Joe Whitt Jr hire myself. He basically is d coordinator/understudy for Green Bay and our DBs can use all the help they can get. If he brings in Kevin Greene as LB coach at least our back 7 will be straight

Tate had Malzahn on top of his hot board for two days too.

Green Bay's defense is their weakness so I'm not jumping for joy at the thought of Witt

Re: Ellis Johnson, Ask USCe fans if they would want him back and I think the answer would be no. I think USCe current D-coordinator is better

BVG is my choice

PM coughed up 20-30 updates claiming insight and eluding to three different coaches being hired when the committee has made it clear that Gus was pretty much the goal from the start. Gus said himself he's been in the hiring process for three straight days.

PM never knew anything. Johnson may be hired. I hope he is, but I hope you guys understand that when it comes to hiring and firing coaches that nobody really knows anything until right before an announcement is made.

When Greene coaches guys like Clay Matthews and Whitt revitalized the careers of guys like Charles Woodsen I would say they are legit. Don't forget that the type of O that the Packers run is a fast paced O just like Auburn's future so he has an understanding what it takes to win under those conditions

ETA: Green Bay has never fallen out of the top 20 and are usually top 15 for defense points allowed per game since he has been there. I don't give a frick about yards allowed especially if we have a fast paced offense of our own, I just care about how many points we give up

BVG isn't an option according to Gus' statement today about needing a multiple defense that can defend spread offenses. He specifically said we can't run the same front every play.

2012 showed us that BVG runs the same front 95% of the time and by his own admittance does not have a grasp on defending the spread.

After the last OC/DC search I vowed not to try to predict or come up with wishlists. BVG and Lefty both were guys that we had no previous knowledge of. Ted Roof and Gus were more of the same. Usually these sort of hires are out of left field, so to speak. Don't waste your energy

You make very good points. But when I think of Greenbay, I think of the game they played against Detroit last year at Lambou(sp?) and it was like never ending points.

It's very bend but don't break which is what we had in 2010 but can't be sustained in the SEC

It is unsustainable when you cant create turnovers and you cant stop people on short yardage situations. Very few teams can consistently organize 12+ play drives for TDs in a game without making mistakes especially in college

Isnt Ellis the guy who hated the spread or hurry up offense. Wanted to get it banned?

if so, that would be a match made in heaven...

Regardless of who our DC is going to be, it'll probably be about the same next year until we can bulk up our LB corp. There is no size back there. BVG said himself at the start of last season. We need bigger players at LB to stop the SEC RB's.
